The Role
We are seeking an experienced and people-focused National Payroll Manager to join our team based in Parramatta.
Reporting to the National Payroll Process Owner, you will lead the delivery of accurate, compliant, and efficient payroll services across Heidelberg Materials Australia. Managing a team of 7 direct reports, you will provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, and continuous improvement of payroll processes to support a large and geographically dispersed workforce.
This role is ideally suited to a seasoned payroll leader with strong SAP expertise, exceptional stakeholder management capabilities, and a passion for developing high-performing teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of payroll professionals.
- Ensure the accurate and timely delivery of payroll services across the organisation.
- Maintain compliance with Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation requirements, awards, and enterprise agreements.
- Drive payroll governance, risk management, and audit compliance activities.
- Lead payroll process optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Act as the payroll subject matter expert for SAP Payroll and related system enhancements.
- Partner closely with HR, Finance, IT, and operational leaders to improve payroll service delivery and employee experience.
- Oversee payroll reporting, reconciliations, month-end activities, and statutory obligations.
- Manage payroll-related projects, including legislative changes, system upgrades, and transformation initiatives.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships across the business while fostering a culture of service excellence and accountability.
About You
You are an experienced payroll leader who thrives in a complex and fast-paced environment. You possess strong technical payroll knowledge, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to delivering outstanding outcomes.
Essential Experience
- Significant experience managing end-to-end payroll operations within a large, complex organisation.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing payroll teams.
- Strong hands-on experience with SAP Payroll is essential.
- Extensive knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation, awards, and enterprise agreements.
- Experience driving payroll transformation, process improvements, and system optimisation initiatives.
- Proven ability to influence and collaborate with senior stakeholders across multiple business functions.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related discipline is desirable.
- Payroll qualifications and professional memberships will be highly regarded.
