Focus of the Role
Telstra is seeking a skilled Network Engineer to join our Defence business, supporting the delivery of secure, high-performance network solutions for our government and defence customers. This role contributes to the strategic development and deployment of enterprise LAN/WAN, wireless, and gateway infrastructure across a large-scale, complex, and distributed environment.

Being in our Defence business means you'll be working to provide secure network and solutions for our defence customer segment.
The Opportunity
You will be responsible for designing and implementing robust network architectures, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance across platforms. This is a critical role in maintaining Telstra’s reputation for delivering superior network experiences to both consumer and business customers.
Candidates must be Australian citizens and hold, at a minimum, a current NV1security clearance to be considered for this role. This position requires the ongoing holding and maintenance of an Australian Government NV1 Security Clearance.
Locations: Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Tasmania
Security Clearance: NV1 or higher (Australian Citizens only)
Key Responsibilities
Analyse statements of work and validate bills of materials
Develop detailed network designs and implementation instructions
Engage with stakeholders to ensure alignment with project objectives
Apply hands-on expertise in routing, switching, wireless, and security technologies
Provide strategic input and problem-solving across complex scenarios
Communicate effectively with peers, customers, and project teams
Deliver work to agreed performance standards, independently or as part of a team
Skills and Experience
Strong understanding of LAN/WAN and wireless network design
Experience with installation and configuration of switches and routers
Proficiency in routing protocols: OSPF, BGP, MPLS, STP, LACP, QoS, BFD
Knowledge of firewalls, VPNs, and network security policies
Familiarity with carrier-grade IP/MPLS/BGP platforms for Layer 2 and 3 services
Experience with network gateways and data flow management
Certifications such as CCNA, JNCIA, or equivalent vendor credentials
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated strategic planning and implementation capabilities
NV1 security clearance (minimum) and Australian citizenship required.
