Start your career with Telstra

Looking for a hands-on career where no two days are quite the same? Telstra is looking for motivated and technically minded people to join our 2-year Telecommunications Technician Traineeship.

As a trainee, you'll learn from experienced Telstra technicians while developing the practical skills and technical knowledge needed to build, operate and maintain telecommunications equipment and infrastructure across our network.

You'll combine structured training with real-world experience, giving you the opportunity to learn on the job while working towards nationally recognised telecommunications qualifications.

We’re looking for someone who is available to commence in February 2027.

  • NSW - Sydney
  • QLD – Brisbane & Townsville
  • SA – Adelaide
  • VIC - Melbourne
  • WA - Perth
  • TAS – Launceston

What you'll be doing

Throughout the traineeship, you'll gain hands-on experience across telecommunications technologies and network environments. Depending on your location and team, this may include:

  • Constructing, operating and maintaining telecommunications equipment and infrastructure
  • Supporting installation, maintenance, testing and fault-finding activities
  • Working alongside experienced Telstra technicians and mentors in the field
  • Developing your understanding of telecommunications networks and equipment
  • Gaining exposure to technologies such as Transmission, Data & IP, Core, Radio and Mobiles
  • Building your technical capability progressively throughout the two-year program

What we're looking for

You don't need to be a telecommunications expert. We're looking for people who are keen to learn and interested in building a long-term career in the industry.

  • A genuine interest in telecommunications and technology
  • A hands-on and technically minded approach
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • A strong commitment to safety
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Professional and respectful communication skills
  • A current driver licence is required
  • The ability to meet the inherent requirements of the role, including completing relevant pre-employment checks

What you'll get

  • Full-time fixed-term employment with Telstra
  • Nationally Recognised Qualification - Certificate III/IV in Telecommunications
  • Structured on-the-job learning and practical field experience
  • Support and mentoring from experienced telecommunications professionals
  • Exposure to different telecommunications technologies and areas of Telstra’s network
  • PPE, tools and equipment required to undertake your role
  • The opportunity to build the skills and experience required for a career in telecommunications

Why Telstra?

You'll be learning in the field alongside the people who build, operate and maintain telecommunications infrastructure every day.

This isn't just classroom learning. The traineeship is designed to give you practical experience, structured development and the opportunity to build your technical capability over two years.

Whether you're starting your career, looking for a change, or wanting to turn an interest in technology into a hands-on profession, we'd love to hear from you.

If you’re looking for a place to grow, feel supported and do your best work, Telstra is where you can define what’s next. With opportunities to stretch your skills, bring your perspective and thrive with flexibility, this is your chance to make a real impact. You don’t need to tick every box to apply. If you're excited by the opportunity, we encourage you to put yourself forward.
