Join ALS Coal – Mayfield, Newcastle, NSW as an Operations Manager!

ALS Coal is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to manage day to day operations of the Newcastle laboratory at our Mayfield site. Reporting to the Branch Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring efficient workflows, high-quality analytical outcomes, strong client relationships, and a safe working environment.

You will oversee day‑to‑day laboratory activities, ensuring compliance with ISO 17025 and NATA standards, while driving operational performance, staff engagement, and continuous improvement.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate all laboratory operations and workflows

  • Ensure accuracy, integrity, and timely delivery of analytical data

  • Maintain compliance with ISO 17025, NATA, and quality systems

  • Build strong client relationships and deliver high service standards

  • Manage staffing, productivity, training, and performance processes

  • Oversee calibration, maintenance, reporting, and stock control

  • Lead safety initiatives and promote a strong HSE culture

  • Manage audits, inter-laboratory programs, and continuous improvement

About You

  • Proven leadership experience in laboratory or operations management

  • Strong understanding of quality systems (ISO 17025/NATA preferred)

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Strong organisational and problem‑solving abilities

  • Commitment to safety, quality, and team performance
