Are you passionate about payroll, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and enjoy working as part of a successful payroll team? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Officer to join our Business Services Centre team based at our North Ryde, Sydney office. This is a 2-year maximum term contract, working in the North Ryde office 3 days a week.

Reporting to the Payroll Team Leader, you will be responsible for assisting in the timely preparation of payroll-related data using SAP, reconciliations, payments, month-end activities, reporting and analysis along with payroll duties as specified by the Business Services Centre (BSC) management team.

The role requires experience with SAP, end-to-end high-volume payroll, strong problem-solving and analytical skills to resolve payroll issues raised through the Customer Support System, along with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service to ensure desirable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the operational aspects of payroll processing and associated activities, including wage/salary disbursements, overpayment recovery, leave management and reporting are accurate and delivered within appropriate timeframes and comply with relevant legislation and within segregation of duties guidelines.
  • Assist with Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrate full capability in processing payroll using the relevant HRMS in line with all payroll deadlines as specified and agreed by Payroll Team Leader and in accordance with business SLAs.
  • Keep up to date with statutory requirements.
  • Adhere to all Downer policies, procedures and standards.

What you will bring

  • 2+ years’ experience in a payroll end to end volume processing role is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering superior customer service.
  • Exposure to multiple Enterprise Agreement (EA) and high-volume (1,000+ employees) payroll processing is beneficial.
  • Experience in SAP, Oracle V12 and/or Oracle Express HR is advantageous.
  • Sound knowledge of payroll legislation and best practices in the payroll operations.
  • Knowledge of Service Now is highly desirable.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications—particularly Excel, Outlook and Word.
