About the role 

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team on an 18-month max-term contract in our Head Office in Alexandria, covering a parental leave period. This role will see you take ownership of payroll delivery for designated business areas while acting as a trusted subject matter expert across payroll tax, superannuation and employment conditions. 

Reporting into Payroll leadership, you will play a critical role in ensuring accurate, compliant and timely payroll processing, while supporting continuous improvement initiatives across systems and processes. 

Key responsibilities 

  • Manage the accurate and timely execution of payrolls for designated business areas  
  • Ensure payroll compliance with all legislative, statutory and internal requirements  
  • Act as the SME on payroll data, calculations and employment conditions  
  • Provide high-quality customer service, balancing efficiency with compliance  
  • Support resolution of escalated payroll queries, issues and discrepancies  
  • Assist with system configuration, testing and process improvements  
  • Drive efficiency through optimisation of payroll processes and tools  
  • Maintain accurate case management records using Salesforce Case Tracker  
  • Draft and deliver communications relating to payroll updates and system issues 

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Strong working knowledge of Australian payroll, tax, superannuation and legislation  
  • Experience interpreting enterprise agreements, including pay, leave and allowances  
  • Proven experience using SAP HR/Payroll systems  
  • Advanced Excel capability, including ability to create and run macros and ad hoc reporting  
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a structured and proactive approach  
  • High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and deadlines  
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex payroll concepts  
  • Collaborative team player who actively supports team goals and peers
