Job Description

Qantas Ground Services (QGS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Qantas Airways and we’re responsible for providing ground handling and freight services to the Qantas Group.

As the Performance Manager you will be responsible in leading and inspiring a team of Ground Staff in achieving the QGS operational and business objectives. This role is pivotal in driving team performance, engagement, and development, while overseeing day-of-operations escalations and ensuring regulatory compliance.

You’ll be responsible for managing all aspects of employee performance, including attendance, fitness for work, and disciplinary matters, fostering a high-performing and engaged workforce. With a strong focus on communication and capability development, you’ll support individuals and teams to meet performance criteria and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • 5+ years' experience leading large frontline or operational teams, with demonstrated leadership in a high-performance, just culture environment.
  • Strong knowledge of employee performance management, case management, attendance management, return-to-work programs, workplace wellbeing and workforce compliance.
  • Proven experience managing complex employee matters, including disciplinary processes, fitness-for-work assessments, injury management and employee welfare initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive positive safety outcomes and foster a strong safety culture within an operational environment.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to effectively engage frontline employees, leaders, HR, Industrial Relations and union representatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to interpret workforce data, identify trends and implement practical solutions.
  • Highly organised and resilient, with the ability to manage competing priorities, work under pressure and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound judgement, discretion and integrity, with a strong commitment to confidentiality, coaching and developing others.
  • Previous experience in aviation, freight, logistics or another complex operational environment will be highly regarded.
