We are looking for a Principal Analyst – Australia power and renewables to join our dynamic and expanding team in Sydney. The successful candidate will join our cross-technology team in downtown Sydney and be responsible for leading power market analysis, thought leadership and client engagement, and business development for the Australia market. He or she will use cutting-edge power dispatch models, engage industry executives on key market trends and forecasts, and deliver high-impact and original research to clients.

Joining a global team of over 200 power and renewables experts, you will quickly contribute to our power research in Asia Pacific. You will lead the analysis of latest policies and investments, develop technology and power price outlooks, coordinate with experts and stakeholders to optimise forecasts, and work on latest modelling advances such as battery revenue outlooks. You will also independently prepare high-quality, insightful reports, publications and presentations to influence clients’ business decisions across solar, wind, battery storage, gas and other technologies. Through research trips, client interactions and industry events you will have opportunity to build and maintain relationships with a range of clients and other experts in the power & renewables industry. You will also play an important leadership role in our Asia Pacific team as a people manager for the Australia research team and developing the commercial growth strategy for Australia. 

This senior role includes industry-leading skills training and learning opportunities and is an ideal opportunity for an experienced professional to expand into a thought leadership and business strategy role in the power & renewables industry.

About You

The role is ideal for an experienced professional working in the Australian power & renewables industry, preferably with experience including quantitative and financial analysis. We are looking for someone who is passionate about understanding the big picture trends in the energy industry, and is looking to take the next step in their career as a recognized power sector expert. The successful candidate will be expected to have the following qualities, qualifications and experience:

  • High interest and aptitude for market analysis and power modelling. Relevant on-the-job training will be given to the selected candidate.

  • 6+ years of relevant work experience in an analytical role in the power & renewables industry such as a utility, developer, consultancy, equipment manufacturer or investor.

  • A good understanding of power markets and policies, technology costs (LCOE, fuel markets etc.) and company strategies is of high value.

  • Enthusiasm, curiosity, willingness to expand knowledge and skills, the ability to tackle challenging questions and to rethink conventional wisdom.

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as engineering, science, economics, finance or other area. A graduate degree is preferred but not required.

  • Strong Excel skills. Relevant experience in data and database management is a major plus.

  • Strong organisation, planning and time management skills

  • Effective writing and presentation skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Fluency in English is mandatory; fluency in another Asian language is a plus
