Why this role is important for us

The Derivatives Operations Specialist will be a key part in supporting the end-to-end lifecycle of derivatives within the Investment Operations function. Reporting to the Head of Complex Operations, this role is responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient processing of derivatives transactions across multiple asset classes. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in derivatives operations, keen attention to detail, and an emphasis on operational excellence.

What you will be responsible for

1. Operational Execution:

  • Support the accurate processing and lifecycle management of OTC and listed derivatives, including trade capture, confirmation, settlement, margining, and collateral management.
  • Ensure timely resolution of trade breaks, reconciliations, and discrepancies in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor and manage daily workflows, ensuring adherence to deadlines and operational risk controls.

2. Process Improvement and Efficiency:

  • Identify opportunities to enhance processes, reduce manual intervention, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Derivatives Operations and technology teams to implement automation initiatives and system enhancements.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for processes, workflows, and controls to ensure consistency and transparency.

3. Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Work closely with front office, risk management, compliance, and other teams to support trade execution and ensure timely and accurate trade lifecycle processing.
  • Liaise with external counterparties, including clearing brokers, custodians, and service providers, to resolve operational issues and ensure service quality.
  • Support communication with internal stakeholders on operational performance, exceptions, and risks.

4. Risk Management and Compliance:

  • Adhere to regulatory and internal policies, ensuring compliance with frameworks such as EMIR, Dodd-Frank, and MiFID II.
  • Monitor key risk indicators and support the implementation of controls to mitigate operational risks.
  • Assist in preparing for audits, regulatory reviews, and stress testing exercises.

5. Team Support and Development:

  • Contribute to a collaborative and committed team culture by sharing knowledge, supporting peers, and participating in training initiatives.
  • Provide input on team development and operational priorities, ensuring alignment of day-to-day tasks with strategic goals.

What we value

  • +10 years of experience in derivatives operations, such as within asset management, hedge funds, or investment banking.
  • Extensive knowledge of derivative products, including swaps, options, futures, and forwards, across asset classes such as equities, fixed income, commodities, and FX.
  • Familiarity with trade lifecycle processes, including trade capture, margining, collateral management, and settlement.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard platforms (e.g., Calypso, Murex, MarkitWire) and understanding of automation tools (e.g., Excel VBA, Python, or RPA solutions).
  • Solid understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., EMIR, Dodd-Frank, MiFID II) and operational risk controls.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Skilled at diagnosing and resolving issues, with a precise and thorough approach throughout.
  • Skilled in communicating clearly and working constructively with teammates in a collaborative setting.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a hectic environment.
