Responsibilities include creating reusable components, maintaining documentation, advocating for user needs, and fostering design team culture.
Summary Generated by Built In

Dovetail’s purpose is to improve the quality of every thing. We believe that teams who listen to their users create higher quality things, and Dovetail is uniquely positioned to help with that. We empower 85,000+ people to make sense of their customer research and feedback in one collaborative and versatile tool. Our customer range from obviously impactful products like the Cochlear implant, helping children and adults hear from the first time, through to everyday crowd-pleasers like Canva, who delight and inspire their customers to design.

We’re building a team of incredibly talented product designers. At Dovetail, designers are accountable for crafting experiences, interactions, and solutions that improve the product for our customers, and drive user adoption. Designers play a major role in the facilitation and execution of solutions, from concept to implementation, and drive UX and visual design, research, ideation, prototyping, conceptual modelling, testing, and validation.

We’re looking for someone who can drive forward our Design System, with great attention to detail, to create experiences that reflect our incredibly high quality bar.

Your responsibilities

  • Continuously evolve and refine our Design System. Work closely with engineers and other designers to identify, create and evolve patterns and reusable components to be shared across Dovetail products. Plan and prioritise requirements for upcoming component delivery.
  • Enable the team. Support engineers and other designers to adopt reusable components across Dovetail, answering questions and enabling teams to ship quickly and consistently, while ensuring alignment with our Design System.
  • Pair closely with engineers. Sweat the details on the implementation of designs to ensure a high quality product experience.
  • Maintain documentation. Create and maintain clear documentation on usage guidelines to support accurate adoption.
  • Advocate for the end user. Naturally, the customer is at the heart of everything we do. Deeply understand customer needs, perspectives and goals, by talking to customers regularly, getting involved in research initiatives, running your own evaluative testing, participating in our community, and responding to customer feedback. Consider and advocate for accessibility and inclusive experiences across our Design System and platforms.
  • Contribute to our design team culture. We’re a small but rapidly growing design team. Some things that are top of mind include how we scale our design rituals, how we maintain our high quality bar as the product team grows, how we work on cross-product problems, and pair on problems together.

Your background

  • Strong design experience. Experience as a product designer, working with sophisticated, modern cloud software, successfully designing, building and maintaining design systems within a product organisation.
  • Excellent communication. Ability to convey opinions, thoughts, and feelings with other teammates, founders, and customers. Honest, thoughtful, and transparent communication is critical.
  • Systems thinking. You can see the big picture and the connections between complex systems. You design systems that balance flexibility, scalability and ease of use. You design solutions that scale across multiple platforms and use cases.
  • Attention to detail. You have a high quality bar and will be constantly looking at enhancing the experience for customers. We aren't opposed to pushing pixels and sweating the details – we're a detailed-oriented company that values quality!
  • Pragmatism. Comfortable with ambiguity, and shifting deadlines. Resourcefully solve problems, and able to make pragmatic trade-offs while holding a bigger, strategic goal in mind.
  • Highly collaborative working style. Experience working closely with adjacent roles, such as product managers and engineers, to plan, prioritise, and deliver projects.
  • Stakeholder management. Confident in communicating product and design visions, framing challenges and opportunities, to stakeholders with the purpose of creating alignment, and driving towards an outcome.
  • A great attitude. The right attitude towards a sense of urgency, risk, and uncertainty about the future that comes with working at an early-stage startup. This is an opportunity to be involved in an exciting journey from the very start.

At Dovetail, we’re passionate about building and fostering an environment where every team member feels supported and valued. We celebrate individualism, welcoming everyone to show up as their authentic selves every day. It’s no secret that diversity builds the best teams, large or small, so we highly encourage applications from people who identify as part of an under-represented group.

Benefits

  • Equity for everyone. We put our money where our mouth is. No matter your role, we provide equity for all along with competitive salaries. See your investment grow as Dovetail grows.
  • Annual retreats. We aim to go away every year to celebrate achievements and have some fun as a team. New Zealand followed by the Whitsundays… where to next?
  • Equal parental leave. We offer an inclusive framework of 20 weeks equal paid leave to support new parents. Every family is unique, so you make the call how you’d like to take care of what matters most.
  • Modern and pet friendly offices. Bring your pooch to our modern, ergonomic offices in the heart of Surry Hills. We also host monthly events for the whole team to connect and unwind.
  • Flexible work-life balance. We love our bright and shiny offices, celebrating wins together, and working on super collaborative and cross-functional projects. While our teams love coming together IRL, we also let you make the call on how and where you want to work.
  • Develop and grow. Take a course, attend a lunch and learn, or head to a conference to help you grow! We love to support you any way we can, so expect Dovetail to be your #1 fan when it comes to achieving your career goals.
  • Extra paid days off. Enjoy ad-hoc KitKat days to take a step back and spend it however you like. Hit the beach, spend time with your family, pick up that hobby you’ve been meaning to try, or anything in between!
  • Health is wealth. We believe that everyone has the right to mental wellness and support. So every Dovetailer has access to Uprise (Employee Assistance Program) for themselves as well as their families.
  • Floating public holidays. Public holidays don’t always align with when you want to take leave. So the choice is yours when it comes to swapping public holiday leave for a later date. You do you!
