About Emesent
Emesent is a Brisbane-based world leader in autonomous LiDAR mapping and drone autonomy. Our flagship product, Hovermap, delivers autonomous LiDAR mapping in GPS-denied environments for the Mining and Defence sectors. Our newly launched GX1 brings high-performance handheld LiDAR to surveying and the built environment. Behind both sits a pipeline of future hardware products and a team that takes hard engineering problems from concept to the field.
The role
SLAM is the technology under everything Emesent makes. It's what lets Hovermap autonomously fly and map where GPS can't reach, what powers GX1’s extraordinary accuracy in the hands of surveyors, and what our reputation is built on. It's also pulled in a different direction by every industry we serve — mining wants robustness, AEC wants accurate and visually impressive point clouds, and the frontier keeps moving.
This role exists to own that tension. You'll be the Product Manager for our SLAM team, working alongside some of the world's best SLAM engineers to decide where our SLAM investment goes, prove our advantage to the market, and turn deep research capability into products users can verify is the best. You'll report to the Director of Product and partner day-to-day with the SLAM engineering manager. You’ll also work closely with the Senior Product Manager – Data Platform, as the front-end for many of the SLAM improvements delivered by the team.
What you'll achieve in your first 12 months
Set the direction for our SLAM investment. You’ll build the depth of context — through users, engineering, and the market — to create a SLAM technology strategy that determines where our frontier investment goes over the next 2–3 years, including what we're explicitly not pursuing.
Ship SLAM improvements users can point to. You'll identify and prioritise the improvements with the highest user value, and deliver capability users can verify: new environments unlocked, accuracy claims we stand behind, jobs our products can now do that they couldn't.
Lift how the SLAM team executes. Partnering with your engineering manager counterpart, you'll build a faster and more predictable release cadence, getting great products into users' hands sooner without trading away quality.
Make our SLAM advantage measurable and legible to buyers. You'll define how Emesent benchmarks SLAM quality — accuracy, drift, robustness across environments — against the best alternatives, then drive the GTM work built on it: positioning, published claims, and sales enablement, so our commercial teams can articulate our differentiation without you in the room.
Become our expert on one key industry. Through user and channel partner engagement, site visits, product usage data, and prototype testing, you'll develop industry understanding deep enough to directly shape our roadmap and vertical strategy.
What you'll bring
10+ years of product management experience, including end-to-end ownership of a technically complex product or product area.
Proven ability to work with engineering teams on hard technical problems — translating complexity into clear product direction and earning credibility with specialists.
A track record of evidence-based decisions: user research, product analytics, and market signals shaping what gets built.
Demonstrated influence across functions and seniority levels, in writing and in the room.
Comfort operating with high autonomy in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
If you don't tick every box but the problem excites you, we'd still like to hear from you.
Strongly regarded
Experience with SLAM, robotics, perception, computer vision, or autonomy.
Experience with deep-tech or hardware products and the associated manufacturing and support processes, where decisions span physical and digital domains.
Experience in the mining, geospatial, or survey industries.

Who we are
Emesent builds LiDAR mapping and autonomy technology for the world's most challenging environments. Founded in 2018 from Australia's CSIRO, our products — Hovermap, GX1, and the Aura software platform — capture spatial data in hazardous, GPS-denied, and hard-to-reach places for mining, survey, and infrastructure customers worldwide. With multiple product lines spanning hardware, desktop, and cloud, we're at an inflection point — and this role sits at the technical heart of it.
