Job Description

Our Engineering teams at Qantas keep us at the forefront of aviation, caring for and maintaining their own aircraft, as well as aircraft for our customers across the Asia-Pacific region. Working with state-of-the-art equipment and resources, our shared commitment to professional excellence continues to keep our customers safe.  

As an Engineering Intern, you will work a three month paid Internship, based in either Sydney or Brisbane depending on project allocation. With one position available in Brisbane and nine in Sydney, this program is designed to give students a rare, hands-on perspective into one of the world’s most renowned airline groups. 

You’ll work alongside seasoned professionals, developing practical skills and exploring the latest advancements that keep our fleet operating at the cutting edge. Whether you’re contributing to state-of-the-art equipment maintenance, participating in business unit studies, or learning from expert mentors, you’ll play an essential role in ensuring the safety and comfort of every passenger who flies with us. 

The program is scheduled to run from December 2025 to March 2026, aligning with university requirements. For those joining us from interstate, flights are provided at the beginning and end of the placement, as well as for the Christmas/New Year break, though you’ll be responsible for your own accommodation arrangements. 

To qualify, you should currently be in your third or fourth year of undergraduate study in the below disciplines and have maintained a credit average or above: 

  • Computer Science 

  • Software Engineering 

  • Mechatronic 

  • Aeronautical 

  • Mechanical 

  • Electrical Engineering 

Strong programming skills—in languages like Java, Python, HTML5, iOS mobile development, or Matlab—will be highly regarded, particularly for specific projects. 

To be considered in this role you will: 

  • Possess high analytical skills with the ability to solve complex problems by thinking laterally 

  • Be a highly motivated, energetic and ambitious individual 

  • Possess strong verbal and written communications and teamwork orientated 

  • Have the ability to liaise and present to all levels within the organisation 

  • Have a genuine interest in the Airline/Aviation Industry 

  • Have a New Zealand or Australian permanent residency
