The Opportunity
Boeing Defence Australia is establishing a state-of-the-art calibration function within its new Wellcamp production facility supporting the MQ-28 program. We are seeking an experienced and proactive Calibration Specialist to lead and manage the calibration department responsible for maintaining, calibrating, and verifying all measurement and test equipment critical to aerospace manufacturing quality.
This key role will focus on the setup, operation, and continuous improvement of the Wellcamp calibration lab, working closely with our established Calibration Office at Boeing Aerostructures Australia (BAA). You will ensure that all calibration services meet strict aerospace standards, supporting high precision and reliability throughout the MQ-28 production environment.
What you'll do:
  • Lead and manage the calibration department, overseeing the calibration of measuring and test equipment essential to manufacturing and tooling quality.
  • Establish and maintain the calibration lab at Wellcamp, including setting up procedures, equipment, and documentation controls in partnership with BAA Calibration Office.
  • Coordinate internal calibration activities and manage outsourcing calibration services where required, ensuring flow and timely certification.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain calibration schedules and traceability records to guarantee compliance with aerospace quality standards.
  • Perform hands-on calibration, verification, and functional testing of devices ranging from dimensional measuring tools to sophisticated precision instruments.
  • Collaborate with engineering, tooling, and quality teams to provide expert calibration support aligned with manufacturing and quality assurance requirements.
  • Maintain calibration data, reports, and quality system documentation in line with Boeing's policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Train and mentor team members on calibration procedures, measurement best practices, and quality compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for calibration processes, laboratory efficiency, and equipment reliability.
  • Support cross-training initiatives, developing complementary capabilities in other metrology disciplines such as CMM programming, optical measurement, and tooling quality to ensure flexible coverage during peak periods and leave.

Your experience and skills:
  • Proven experience managing calibration functions or calibration technicians within aerospace, manufacturing, or precision engineering environments.
  • Extensive hands-on experience calibrating a range of measurement and test equipment, including dimensional tools, gauges, and instrumentation.
  • Good knowledge of calibration laboratory setup, calibration standards, traceability requirements, and quality system compliance (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025).
  • Strong skills in documentation, record-keeping, and maintaining calibration schedules.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and external service providers ensuring smooth coordination and quality delivery.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and calibration procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a commitment to continuous improvement and quality assurance.
  • Excellent communication and team leadership abilities.
  • Australian citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain TOP SECRET level clearance from the Australian Department of Defence.
  • Willingness to cross-skill and receive training in related metrology disciplines such as CMM programming, optical measurement, and tooling inspection.

Training and Cross-Skilling Opportunity
We recognise the value of a versatile skill set. You will have the opportunity to develop additional metrology competencies beyond calibration; such as coordinate measuring machines (CMM), optical measuring systems, and tooling inspection through structured training programs. This flexibility helps cover workload variability and provides career development opportunities.
