We are seeking an experienced risk professional to join the Banks Enterprise Information and Data Governance team in a strategic Line 1 role, supporting departmental leaders to uplift risk culture and progressively mature our risk management practices and supporting key control environment.

About the role

Reporting directly to the Head of Information and Data Governance, this newly created role, will enhance our management of material risks and ensure we stay ahead in an ever-evolving information and data risk landscape.

As the Risk Manager in the Information and Data Governance Team, you will:

  • Assist in identifying, assessing, and managing risks and controls in support of robust enterprise information and data management, and to achieve business objectives.

  • Coach departmental leaders and team members to foster a strong risk culture, promoting risk awareness and proactive ownership of risk throughout the department

  • Help develop adequate controls to mitigate material risk exposures.  Support the control owners to test key controls on at least an annual basis.

  • Provide risk advice in the assessment, root cause analysis and remediation of risk incidents.

  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of departmental risk management practices to senior management, highlight gaps and further escalate as required.

  • Support proactive consideration of the risk and control implications of change activities to drive timely and cost-effective incorporation of future controls.

  • Ensure the quality of the department risk data within the RBA’s risk management system by monitoring and reporting on data hygiene. 

  • Ensure business operations and risk management practices align to the RBA’s risk management strategy, risk appetite and supporting frameworks, policies, and standards.

  • Work collaboratively with our Enterprise Risk and Compliance Team (Line 2) and Internal Audit (Line3) to provide integrated assurance to the Governance Board and Board Audit & Risk Committee.  Demand Line 2 insight, review, and challenge to ensure the continuous improvement of departmental risk practices.

  • Contribute to a community of practice and share best practice to deepen understanding and drive consistency in risk management practices across the RBA. 

About you

  • 8 years + experience in a Line 1 or Line 2 operational risk and compliance role, preferably with significant exposure to Enterprise Information and Data Management.

  • Demonstrated experience as a subject matter expert, supporting the learning and development of business stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability in supporting a business to strengthen risk culture and risk management practices.

  • Experience in design, build and implementation of risk and compliance frameworks, coaching and training.

  • Understanding of Bank-wide (or similar organisation) risk and compliance management frameworks, policies and standards. 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in risk, compliance, technology, finance or related discipline, or equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrated negotiation and resolution management skills.
