The Opportunity

Downer is seeking an experienced Sales & Technical Services Manager to lead the front-end growth capability of our Manufacturing business. This influential role brings together sales, business development, strategic customer engagement, estimating and technical solution development to secure profitable work and expand our market presence. 

You will build a strong opportunity pipeline, develop long-term customer partnerships and work closely with Engineering, Estimating, Commercial and Project Delivery teams to translate customer needs into safe, practical and commercially competitive manufacturing solutions. 

This role will also:

  • Develop and execute the Manufacturing sales and business development strategy across priority markets 
  • Identify, qualify and convert new and existing opportunities while maintaining disciplined account plans, forecasts and a robust sales pipeline
  • Build trusted relationships with key customers, understand future demand and act as the senior technical and commercial interface during opportunity development
  • Lead opportunity qualification, bid strategy, estimating and tender planning to deliver accurate, competitive and commercially robust submissions
  • Work with Engineering, Design and Estimating teams to develop safe, compliant, manufacturable and customer-focused solutions
  • Monitor market trends and identify new products, services, sectors, partnerships and long-term growth opportunities
  • Support commercial negotiations, risk reviews, business cases, budgeting and strategic planning
  • Lead, coach and develop sales, estimating, design and technical services capability, fostering strong collaboration with operations and delivery teams

What we are looking for 

  • A qualification in Engineering, Electrical Trade, Business, Sales or a related discipline 
  • At least seven years of experience in technical sales, business development, commercial or operational leadership roles
  • Demonstrated success securing major projects and building strategic customer relationships
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing, engineering, electrical infrastructure or industrial service environments
  • Commercial negotiation, contract management, tendering and opportunity governance experience
  • The ability to lead and influence multidisciplinary technical and commercial teams
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, presentation and written and verbal communication skills
  • A current Driver Licence and flexibility to travel regularly across Australia
  • Experience with switch rooms, MCCs, E-Houses, skid packages or industrial manufacturing, together with exposure to the Energy, Utilities, Water, Mining or Infrastructure sectors
