Responsibilities

Join our Downer Professional Servicesteam and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future. 

Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security. 

We currently have an opportunity for a SATCOM Systems Engineer in Canberra to leads the development and evolution of the SATCOM Control Segment.

What You’ll Do  
This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:  

  • Provide technical leadership across Control Segment engineering activities, ensuring operational needs, integration requirements, and supportability considerations are reflected in capability planning, procurement, and capability realisation.
  • Liaise with Capability Sponsors, operators, DDG/MPI, and other Defence stakeholders to define and manage Control Segment requirements, integration needs, and engineering work packages.
  • Maintain a coherent approach to sustaining, modernising, and integrating Control Segment capabilities to support resilient and effective SATCOM operations.

What You’ll Bring  

  • Demonstrated experience managing or assuring complex ICT, command and control, or operational support systems, including applications, networks, hosting environments, interfaces, and their operational use.
  • Sound understanding of Defence ICT and system integration environments, with the ability to translate user needs into requirements, acceptance criteria, and informed engineering decisions.
  • Proven experience leading complex engineering activities involving multiple stakeholders, including requirements development, capability planning, technical governance, and industry engagement.

Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance withInternational Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
