About the Role

As a Senior Architect - AWS, you will do more than move workloads; you will reimagine them for the AI era. You will lead flagship cloud transformation programs, designing architectures that bridge the gap between legacy environments and the cutting edge of AWS innovation. In this role, you will combine robust migration strategies with emerging technologies, exploring how Generative AI, Amazon Q, and modern data patterns can accelerate outcomes. You will guide clients through the full lifecycle—from discovery and assessment to the deployment of intelligent, scalable Landing Zones—helping organisations realise the true potential of a modern, future-ready cloud.

What you'll do

As a Senior Architect - AWS your key responsibilities include:

• Discovery & Assessment – conducting portfolio analysis using migration assessment tools to build business cases and migration strategies
• Workload Rationalisation – applying the 7 R framework to determine optimal migration paths and patterns for customer workloads
• Design – producing AWS migration assessments, re-platform and refactor plans aligned to the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework (AWS CAF), and target-state architecture documentation
• Implementation – delivering migration, re-platforming, and re-factoring solutions using DevOps and IaC practices, leveraging AWS tooling such as AWS Application Migration Service (MGN), AWS Database Migration Service (DMS), and AWS Migration Hub
• Landing Zones – designing scalable Landing Zones and account structures that support large-scale, multi-wave migrations
• Technical Leadership – leading team members and third parties through complex migration programs, providing guidance during proposal writing, solution design and implementation
• Client Engagement – developing strong relationships and delivering technical presentations, displaying excellence during all facets of each engagement
• Evangelism – promoting Cloud as a driver for business change both internally and for our customers

What you'll bring

This is an excellent senior role for a people person who is passionate about new technologies and producing excellent solutions for our customer needs. You'll have at least 10 years IT experience with at least 5 years in project delivery and/or consultancy.

We are keen to hear about your proven track record in delivering large-scale cloud migration and modernisation programs—taking customers from legacy environments to AWS at scale. Experience leading discovery workshops, conducting workload assessments, and developing migration wave plans is highly valued. Your relationship building and communication skills will be a strength.

We value people who stay ahead of the curve—whether that's experimenting with generative AI tools, exploring how AI can enhance cloud solutions, or simply being curious about emerging technologies.

Highly Desirable Skills and Experience

Qualifications:

•   Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent industry experience)

Certifications:

•   AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional (required)

•   AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional

Migration & Modernisation:

•   Hands-on experience with large-scale cloud migrations (500+ workloads preferred)

•   Strong understanding of the 7 R framework for workload rationalisation

•   Experience with AWS assessment tools: Migration Evaluator, Application Discovery Service

•   Proficiency with AWS migration services: Application Migration Service (MGN), Database Migration Service (DMS), DataSync

•   Landing Zone deployments

AI & Emerging Technology:

•   Curiosity and enthusiasm for AI and its application to cloud architecture and migration

•   Exposure to AWS AI/ML services such as Bedrock, SageMaker, or Amazon Q

•   Experience using AI-assisted development or productivity tools (e.g., Amazon CodeWhisperer, GitHub Copilot)

Consulting & Leadership:

•   Technical leadership within project environments

•   Customer engagement, governance and steering business outcomes

•   High-quality design documentation

You must hold or have the ability to obtain an NV1 Clearance and be based in Canberra.
