The Role
Our Environment & Sustainable Development (ESD) practice are seeking a Senior Associate to join the team based in Sydney on a permanent, full-time basis.
This is a newly created role primarily working directly with partner Mark Brady. Our shared resourcing model within ESD means you will also have the opportunity to work closely with Partners Brendan Bateman and Nick Thomas on large and visible projects, dealing with a broad range of issues relevant to the practice area. In line with Mark's practice, this position will initially have a particular focus on compulsory acquisition matters including pre-acquisition advice and LEC Class 3 litigation, but will also require expertise in LEC Class 1 matters as well as broader environment and planning issues.
The ESD team are high performing and share a passion for the environment and a solutions-driven approach to working with our clients. The role will see you working on a diverse range of matters but particularly on major infrastructure projects, and the work will include general advice, due diligence, transactions and litigation.
You will work with clients who include Federal, State and local government agencies, as well as large Australian and multinational corporations.
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:

Minimum 6 years' post-qualification experience as a lawyer from a leading Australian or international law firm;

Demonstrated experience mentoring and supervising junior lawyers;

Experience across planning, environment and land acquisition matters;

Significant experience in Land and Environment Court litigation;

Experience with project, transactional, regulatory, litigation and dispute related work;

Highly developed written and oral communication skills; and
-
A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with clients, consultants, counsel, graduate lawyers and other parties.
In addition to this, we're looking for a resilient, self-starter. Someone who is able to work autonomously and is focused on delivering a high quality work product and an outstanding service to their clients.
