About this role

Our growing Private Enterprise (Private Tax Advisory) team is looking for a Senior Accountant to join our vibrant, friendly Sydney office.

Business owners and private groups face a wide range of challenges throughout the business lifecycle, including growth, restructuring, acquisitions and mergers, succession planning and exit strategies. As part of our Reach for Remarkable brand promise, Grant Thornton’s people are committed to delivering a strikingly different client experience that is agile, authentic and personal.

In this role, you will work closely with Partners and Directors to provide practical, commercially focused tax advice to privately owned businesses, family groups and high‑net‑worth individuals, while also supporting ongoing compliance obligations that underpin quality advisory outcomes.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver tax advice on issues such as restructures, Division 7A, CGT, trust taxation, succession and estate planning, international tax and various other complex tax matters, under the guidance of senior team members

  • Support tax due diligence engagements for acquisitions of private groups, including reviewing tax risks, structuring considerations and transaction impacts

  • Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships through proactive communication and a solutions‑focused approach

  • Support Partners and Directors with client meetings, proposals and the delivery of advisory and transaction‑related engagements

  • Coach and mentor junior team members, providing guidance on technical matters and professional development

Skills and experience

  • Qualification(s) and / or professional accreditation(s) in a relevant discipline such as Business / Commerce, Accounting or Finance, Law, or other relevant professional or overseas qualification(s)

  • Have commenced (or planning to commence) a CA qualification

  • Demonstrated experience in tax advisory within a chartered accounting or law firm environment

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with a genuine commitment to delivering high‑quality outcomes and a positive client experience

  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities within a deadline-driven environment

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, with the ability to apply technical reasoning and reach well‑considered conclusions, including testing assumptions, communicating reasoning clearly, and knowing when to seek guidance or collaborate with senior colleagues

If you’re interested in this role but don’t feel that you match every single one of our requirements, we would still love to hear from you and explore the unique skillset and attributes that you can bring to the team.
