Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide. But you have the choice in where and how you work-we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.
What you'd be doing in this role
As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you a flavor of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
- Contributing to the design and build of our user support GenAI platform.
- Developing scalable AI solutions to enable other teams within Canva.
- Building key user-facing features for "Ask Canva," our AI-powered support chatbot.
- Driving incremental improvements to our AI platform and backend integration.
- Working closely with ML Engineers to introduce cutting-edge AI capabilities.
- Deeply integrating AI systems with Canva's ecosystem to better support users.
- Presenting opportunities in AI for the team to explore and implement.
You're probably a match if you have:
- Strong backend engineering experience coding in Java, particularly in AI-powered products.
- An interest in GenAI, LLMs, and AI-driven customer support solutions.
- Pragmatic problem-solving skills and a passion for collaborative development.
- The ability to work in cross-functional teams, especially with ML Engineers.
- A love for solving complex problems and leveraging AI to enhance user experiences.
- A continuous learning mindset, particularly in AI and ML technologies.

We aim to proactively solve issues for users while ensuring a seamless handover to human agents when needed. We are a tight-knit, diverse team passionate about solving complex problems using AI technology, always with a user-first mindset.
