We value passion, optimism, and an appetite for change - for the better. The Opportunity

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Manager to join our Development & Project Management team and take end-to-end commercial accountability for an assigned portfolio of work. With a strong focus on pre-contract commercial leadership, you’ll shape cost plans, procurement strategies, tender outcomes and value engineering initiatives, while maintaining commercial oversight through contract administration, cost control and final account settlement. You’ll also support and develop commercial team members while personally managing the commercial delivery of larger and more complex capital projects.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead pre-contract commercial strategy across capital projects, developing and challenging feasibility estimates, cost plans and budgets from early design through to contract award.
  • Drive procurement and tender outcomes, shaping tender strategies, evaluating commercial submissions, leading negotiations and supporting tender recommendations through to contract execution.
  • Lead value engineering and cost optimisation, identifying opportunities and commercially challenging project solutions to maintain alignment with approved funding without compromising key project outcomes.
  • Manage post-contract commercial delivery, including head contract administration, payment certification, variations, extensions of time, contractor claims, dispute avoidance and final account settlement.
  • Own portfolio cost performance and reporting, maintaining accurate committed cost, forecast and final cost positions, including contingency management and escalation of emerging commercial risks.
  • Lead commercial capability across the portfolio, reviewing and approving the work of Commercial Managers and consultants, developing team members, and taking direct commercial responsibility for larger or more complex projects.

What You’ll Bring
  • Extensive experience in quantity surveying, commercial management or contract management within capital works, construction, development or major project environments.
  • Demonstrated strength in pre-contract commercial management, particularly feasibility cost planning, design-stage cost management, cost-plan challenge, value engineering and procurement strategy.
  • Substantial post-contract expertise, including head contract administration, payment certification, variations, claims, extensions of time, dispute management and final account negotiation and settlement.
  • Strong commercial judgement and negotiation capability, with the confidence to challenge contractors, consultants and senior stakeholders and provide clear, defensible commercial recommendations.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the capability to oversee Commercial Managers, external quantity surveyors and consultants while personally managing the commercial requirements of complex projects.
  • A tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Commerce, Business or a related discipline, supported by strong analytical, stakeholder management and commercial decision-making capability.
