  • Based in Bella Vista, NSW

We are seeking a Backend Software Developer with strong Java expertise and deep experience working with high‑performance Oracle database platforms, including Oracle Exadata, to build and maintain scalable, data‑intensive backend systems. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of modern application engineering and enterprise-grade database infrastructure, helping shape robust, reliable, and scalable systems for critical business applications.
The role

You will play a pivotal role in modernizing and migrating Java-based applications to Oracle Exadata-powered environments. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams including DBAs, infrastructure engineers, and DevOps—to deliver seamless, high-performing application deployments.

  • Support the migration of Java-based applications (Spring Boot, Tomcat) to infrastructure environments powered by Oracle Exadata.

  • Review and adapt JDBC configurations, connection pools, and system properties for Oracle compatibility.

  • Validate application functionality, performance, and connectivity post-migration.

  • Work closely with DBAs and platform teams to troubleshoot performance, tuning, and connectivity issues.

  • Automate environment setup and deployment processes using shell scripting and configuration tools.

  • Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of configurations, migration steps, rollback procedures, and validations in Confluence.

  • Track activities, risks, validations, and issues using Jira to support transparent project delivery.

  • Work in close partnership with Infrastructure, Security, and Application Development teams.

  • Contribute to the stability and performance of business-critical applications through proactive issue identification and resolution.

About you

  • Ideally 5+ years of experience with Java (8+), Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate, and REST APIs.

  • Proven experience deploying Java applications using Apache Tomcat in Linux-based VM environments.

  • Hands-on integration experience with Oracle databases, ideally including Exadata.

  • Strong knowledge of JDBC, connection management, and SQL performance tuning.

  • Proficient in implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, and Artifactory.

  • Understanding of core infrastructure components: TLS, firewalls, DNS, and system services.

  • Proficient in shell scripting (bash or similar) for automation and environment provisioning.

  • Experience with AppDynamics for JVM and database performance monitoring.

  • Strong ability to troubleshoot and optimize both application logic and underlying database behaviour to resolve end-to-end performance issues.

  • A collaborative mindset and ability to contribute effectively within a dedicated modernization team.

Nice to have:

  • Strong analytical mindset with keen attention to detail.

  • Familiarity with Puppet or similar configuration management tools.

  • Ability to work independently during critical migration or validation windows.
