About this role
As a Senior DevOps Engineer at Stake, you are a critical, hands-on contributor responsible for the execution of the platform strategy. Your role is essential in enabling autonomous product teams to own and deploy their services efficiently. You will design and build the shared platform, tools and CI/CD pipelines that accelerate release cycles and provide a smooth, reliable operational infrastructure. You will work closely with developers across engineering teams, acting as a subject matter expert in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation to build scalable applications and embed high-quality standards through efficient CI/CD processes.
Key deliverables
- Platform & Cloud Engineering:
- Design, build, and operate a GCP-native platform, with a strong focus on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
- Implement and manage service mesh technologies to enable secure, observable, and resilient service-to-service communication.
- Drive platform reliability, scalability, and cost optimisation across environments.
- CI/CD & Developer Enablement
- Design and maintain scalable CI/CD pipelines that enable fast, safe, and repeatable deployments.
- Embed automated testing, security, and compliance checks into the software delivery lifecycle.
- Improve developer experience by providing self-service tooling and paved paths for deployment.
- Implement and manage secure access controls including Privileged Access Management (PAM)
- Infrastructure as Code & Automation
- Lead adoption of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar) and configuration management practices.
- Build reusable modules and frameworks to standardise infrastructure provisioning.
- Eliminate manual processes through automation and continuous improvement.
- Observability, Reliability & Operations
- Implement and evolve monitoring, logging, and alerting to ensure high system reliability and visibility.
- Contribute to incident response, postmortems, and continuous improvement of system resilience.
- Define and track SLIs/SLOs in collaboration with engineering teams.
- Architecture & Technical Leadership
- Review system designs and architecture proposals to ensure scalability, security, and operability.
- Act as a subject matter expert in cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, and DevOps practices.
- Mentor engineers and promote a culture of operational excellence and ownership.
About you
- Strong experience with GCP or AWS including GKE, networking, IAM, and cloud-native services.
- Hands-on expertise with Kubernetes in production environments.
- Experience implementing or operating a service mesh
- Deep knowledge of CI/CD tooling (e.g. GitHub Actions).
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform, Config Connector).
- Experience with observability stacks (e.g. DataDog, Kong etc.).
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture, security, and distributed systems.
- Proven ability to drive automation and platform improvements at scale.
