Reporting directly to the Vice President and General Manager of Australia and New Zealand, this role is pivotal within our organization. The Commercial Senior Director will head the commercial teams across three groups: Life Sciences (LSG), BioProduction (BPG), and Specialty Diagnostic (SDG).

This position is crucial for advancing organizational growth using the One Thermo Fisher value proposition. The Senior Director will collaborate with commercial and divisional leaders, and support teams to enable them to achieve positive outcomes.

In this role, you will evaluate and assess the ways of working for our commercial teams, using these insights to develop a comprehensive strategy aimed at accelerating our business growth beyond that of our competitors. This role requires a strategic perspective, strong leadership skills, and a deep understanding of business management, to play a critical role in achieving mid- to long-term growth and success for our organization.

Key Responsibilities / What will you do?
  • Lead the LSG, BPG, and SDG businesses in ANZ, assuming complete accountability for achieving the goals and the revenue and profitability of these groups.

  • Develop a comprehensive commercial strategy for mid- to long-term growth to outpace competitors, collaborating with leadership teams in ANZ, Asia Pacific & Japan region, and global. This strategy should be attuned to customer needs and market shifts, including governmental and competitive landscapes.

  • Encourage incremental development through the One Thermo Fisher customer value proposition and workflow selling solutions. Collaborate seamlessly across Divisions and Functions, locally, regionally, and globally. Tap into country resources and the shared service model to meet customer expectations.

  • Work closely with division leaders to establish and carry out individualized go-to-market strategies, enhancing flexibility in addressing evolving scenarios.

  • Spot and assess market potentials for short-term engagements and mid- to long-term expansion. Actively collaborate with relevant teams to pursue business expansion opportunities associated with emerging technologies or new market sectors. Swiftly modify sales approaches to adapt to market condition changes.

  • Prioritize people investments to ensure business continuity and mitigate risks. Build high-performing teams with a deep and enduring pipeline of successors, harnessing diversity to drive success. Act as a role model leader for our values and mission, drive engagement, and position the company as an employer of choice for top talent.

  • Form focused commercial teams through ensuring commercial leaders implement robust sales processes, including accurate forecasting, pipeline management and CRM.

  • Uphold the highest standards of integrity, leading by example.

  • Lead and promote change by implementing controlled execution initiatives across teams to deliver expected results.

  • This role, as part of the ANZ Senior Leadership team, partners on vital decisions that impact business, team, and customer engagement.

Education, Knowledge, Skills,& Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with bonus points for degree in life sciences or master’s degree in relevant field.

  • Extensive understanding and proficiency in life sciences, material sciences, medical devices, diagnostics, or related sectors, with over 20 years' experience in pertinent areas. Also, at least 10 years in a leadership position with solid commercial acumen.

  • Proven ability to lead and mentor managers and employees with strong executive presence in diverse environments.

  • Established proficiency in defining, shaping, and planning strategies and initiatives that establish business direction. Develop and implement Annual Operating Plans assessing strategic trade-offs across business areas to achieve targets.

  • Excellent skill in building and sustaining professional connections with top customers and government officials, as well as impacting essential internal collaborators in a multi-divisional matrix organization.

  • Ability to adjust to diverse business environments, demonstrating a firm dedication to championing diversity, equity and inclusion, with a customer-focused ethos.

  • Takes personal ownership of results, demonstrating responsibility for safety, security, compliance, and adherence to Thermo Fisher's ethics and values.

  • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity and holds oneself and others accountable for continuous improvement.

  • Strong resilience and focused mindset.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

Role based in the office and field, involving travel throughout Australia and New Zealand, as well as occasional international trips.
