Job Description

Grow your career in this Senior Engineering role within AECOM’s Generation and Storage team.  You will be applying and building your engineering abilities across a rapidly evolving sector covering utility-scale wind, solar, battery storage (BESS) and hybrid projects for a variety of clients, asset owners and developers.  This role and project variety will provide the opportunity to develop your technical and project delivery abilities while also learning from AECOM’s technical leaders.

You will also be working across project stages, preparing documentation, designs and engineering inputs across the project life cycle. Depending on the project, you may get involved in prefeasibility studies, concept design, technical studies for planning approvals, development of Principal’s requirements, tender evaluation, detailed design reviews on Owners Engineer (OE) engagements, construction phase support (including quality assurance), and commissioning phase activities. The common thread is helping to communicate complex technical concepts and solutions, in a simple and easy to understand way for a variety of stakeholders.  The fast paced and innovative nature of projects will suit a Senior Engineer looking to make a difference across major and complex projects where understanding client needs, balancing engineering concepts, and problem solving to ensure technical and project delivery excellence.

Key role responsibilities include:

  • Provide and complete engineering reviews, designs, calculations and technical advisory tasks, meeting project technical requirements.
  • Supporting project delivery excellence through arranging technical verification tasks are completed, working within AECOM’s technical standards and processes.
  • Raising design discrepancies and contributing to problem solving, within a collaborative team environment.
  • Work with the current local team to help mentor graduate and early-stage career engineers, developing their technical and project abilities.
  • Contributing to delivery excellence maintaining AECOM’s high standards of quality, safety, digital innovation and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced Electrical Engineer with a track record of working across various project types in the Renewable and Electrical sector.  You will be known for your ability to support delivery of projects, working collaboratively in teams, with a project and client-first focus.

Experience across a variety of renewable projects (ideally a mix of wind, solar and battery, with hybrid experience highly regarded) will be important for success in this role.  Having exposure to working across different project types, site requirements, and geographies at utility scale will be an advantage.  While the majority of our projects are on utility-scale projects, we also work on commercial and industrial scale solar and BESS projects, so this experience is also valuable.

The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes, you could still be a perfect fit for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered.

  • 5+ years of demonstrated engineering experience working on renewable energy projects across a range of technologies and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), with experience during construction and commissioning highly regarded.
  • Electrical engineering or renewable energy related engineering qualification, with a developed knowledge of electrical balance of plant systems (AC and DC), equipment and project interfaces.
  • Ability to own, plan and complete detailed engineering, technical advisory and design work packages. This can span across technical reviews, site inspections, reports, modelling or calculations and coordinating workshops, gaining technical input and verification as required.
  • An ability to proactively problem solve, identify discrepancies, and work within agreed client timelines, scopes and budgets independently.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to confidently coordinate multidisciplinary inputs, as the Generation and Storage team is often required to play an integration role on Owner’s Engineering and technical advisory engagements.
  • Either registered, or working towards professional registration, on the National Engineering Register in Australia (such as RPEV or RPEQ) ideally supported by a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) designation or equivalent international accreditation.
