Location: We are open to all locations across Australia for the right candidate.

About the Role

ERM is seeking a Senior Geological Data Consultant to join our Technical Mining Services team, supporting a diverse portfolio of mining, exploration, and environmental projects within a dynamic consulting environment.

You will work directly with real-world client datasets—identifying data issues, improving workflows, and ensuring information is accurate, reliable, and fit for reporting and decision-making. This is a hands-on, outcomes-focused role where you will apply practical data management techniques, including automation and emerging AI-assisted approaches, to enhance data quality, efficiency, and consistency.

Success in this role requires both technical capability and strong interpersonal skills. You will engage regularly with internal teams and clients, requiring clear communication, critical thinking, and the ability to build trusted, long-term relationships.

We recognise that data in consulting environments is often incomplete or evolving. You will be comfortable working in this space—prioritising effectively, applying sound judgement, and delivering pragmatic solutions.

Flexible working arrangements are available, and we are open to tailoring these to the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Geoscientific Data Management: Work with geological and related datasets across mining, exploration, and environmental projects.

  • Database Administration: Maintain and manage project databases and data systems, ensuring integrity, security, and performance.

  • Data QA/QC: Clean, validate, and prepare data for reporting, interpretation, and downstream technical use.

  • Public Data Integration: Review and assess government and open-file datasets (e.g. WAMEX and equivalents) for integration, validation, and reconciliation.

  • Process & Workflow Improvement: Support data migrations, system upgrades, and continuous improvement of data standards and processes.

  • Problem Solving: Investigate and resolve data inconsistencies efficiently and pragmatically.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams and clients to clarify requirements, resolve queries, and deliver to agreed timelines.

About You

You are a practical, solutions-oriented professional who thrives in a consulting environment. While you may not meet every requirement, you bring the right mindset, adaptability, and capability to add value from day one.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Pragmatic Problem Solving: A “can-do” approach with a focus on practical, fit-for-purpose solutions (avoiding over-engineering).

  • Comfort with Imperfect Data: Confidence working with incomplete or inconsistent datasets while maintaining progress and composure.

  • Strong Judgement: An ability to identify anomalies, ask the right questions, and challenge data where required.

  • Clear Communication: Ability to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences and build trusted relationships.

  • Self-Management: Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

Technical Experience

  • Geological Data Experience: Hands-on experience with geological data in mining or exploration contexts (environmental datasets also valued).

  • Database & SQL Skills: Proficiency in relational databases and SQL for validation, troubleshooting, and reporting.

  • Data Systems: Familiarity with geological data management platforms, with the ability to quickly learn new systems.

  • GIS (Desirable): Experience using GIS tools for spatial validation and data sense-checking.

Desirable:

  • Exposure to environmental data management systems or regulatory datasets.

What ERM Offers

  • Flexible Work Options: Full‑time, part‑time, or casual arrangements, with hybrid work‑from‑home flexibility.

  • Diverse Projects: Exposure to a wide range of clients, commodities, and project types across mining and environmental sectors.

  • Professional Growth: Opportunities to tackle varied data challenges, contribute to improvement initiatives, and build industry connections.

  • Supportive Team Environment: A trust‑based culture where you are empowered to apply judgement, take ownership, and deliver outcomes, with support from an experienced team when needed.
