The Role

You will be responsible for providing legal support across a diverse range of matters, including:

  • Supporting the development and introduction of new financial products, services and business initiatives.
  • Providing advice on Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) obligations and regulatory compliance.
  • Advising on matters involving ASIC, AUSTRAC and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) requirements.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements, including strategic partnership arrangements.

  • Managing external legal advisers and ensuring commercially appropriate outcomes.
  • Providing guidance and support to other members of the legal team and broader business.
  • Taking ownership of legal matters independently while contributing to wider strategic and operational priorities.
About You

You will be an experienced financial services lawyer with 9+ years PAE, ideally with a combination of private practice and in-house experience, and:

  • Strong experience across financial services regulation, corporate and commercial law.
  • Previous in-house legal experience within the financial services sector.
  • Experience advising on financial services products, investment platforms or related regulated activities.
  • Sound knowledge of Australian Financial Services Licence requirements and regulatory obligations.
  • Experience engaging with Australian financial services regulators, particularly ASIC and AUSTRAC.
  • A strong understanding of AML/CTF legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
  • The ability to provide clear, practical and commercially focused legal advice.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence advising across different business functions.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities independently.
  • A current NSW practising certificate.

Experience with investment platforms, custody arrangements, Investor Directed Portfolio Services (IDPS) or financial technology businesses will be highly regarded.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior in-house lawyer seeking a broad and commercially engaging role, with the autonomy to influence legal and regulatory outcomes while contributing to the continued development of a growing financial services business.
