Job Description

An excellent opportunity has arisen in our in-house legal team, the Office of General Counsel (OGC), for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel in Sydney. The OGC provide legal advice across the complete service offering of KPMG Australia.  An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic senior solicitor to join the team in a role focused on advising employment issues and related litigation and dispute resolution. 

As a valued member of KPMG’s Office of General Counsel, you will 

  • Manage and advise on a range of employment matters from investigations to disputes 
  • Draft responsive documents in employment related proceedings (Fair Work Commission and/or Australian Human Rights Commission) 
  • Facilitate factual investigations in workers compensation matters 
  • On complex matters, work with counsel, external law firms and those within the Office of General Counsel to help resolve disputes, address regulatory issues and respond to claims against KPMG 
  • Provide timely legal advice to KPMG on complex legal risks and issues 
  • Assist in responding to Orders, Notices, Summonses and Subpoenas served on KPMG 
  • Provide legal advice on employment-related policies and procedures. 

The successful candidate for this position will: 

  • Hold a current Practicing Certificate 
  • Be familiar with proceedings before the Fair Work Commission and/or the Australian Human Rights Commission, proceedings before a court and interacting with workplace regulators 
  • Have a strong academic record with 5 plus years post qualification experience in private practice at a major law firm 
  • Be analytical, commercial and solution focused 
  • Have an ability to work under pressure, manage priorities and adhere to deadlines 
  • Possess a strong team orientated attitude 
  • Be focused on professional development and improvement
