GHD has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Legal Counsel (SLC) to assist the Head of Compliance and Integrity and other members of the Corporate Legal teams, by providing advice and support to ensure compliance with the companys' legal obligations, internal policies and risk management strategies across the countries in which the GHD group of companies operate. The Corporate Legal team supports the company's directors, senior management, lawyers and staff with risk management and professional practice matters.

The SLC will also take on the following responsibilities:

  1. As Data Protection Officer: ensuring that the Enterprise complies with and applies the laws protecting and individuals personal data.
  2. As Legal Compliance Officer: advising on the development and implementation of programs, policy and guidelines that improve GHD's understanding of and compliance with legislation and regulations in the various jurisdictions in which GHD operates.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the privacy program at GHD
  • Review and assess GHD’s processing activities
  • Advise cross-functional groups (including People, Information Services, and Project teams) on compliance with global data protection regulation
  • Collaborate with GHD’s regional legal teams to improve compliance
  • Draft and review privacy notices and other compliance documentation
  • Implement and maintain GHD’s Record of Processing Activities
  • Draft, review and advise on data processing agreements, including the incorporation of international transfer mechanisms
  • Spot and assess data protection risks and other related risks at GHD
  • Drive process improvements at GHD to improve compliance while also considering competing objectives of all stakeholders involved
  • Manage and respond to data subject rights requests and enquiries
  • Respond to and assess personal data breaches

Required

  • Admitted to practice law in a jurisdiction in which GHD operates
  • A proven track record of advising on and implementing global data protection regulations
  • A proactive mindset and ability to problem solve
  • Ability to work in complex, fast-moving environments

Highly desirable

  • A technical background in cyber security or another IT discipline
  • Experience in other technology compliance areas like artificial intelligence, critical infrastructure and cyber security
  • Experience working across multiple jurisdictions
