Your day at NTT DATA
NTT DATA is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our team on a permanent role. This role can be based in Sydney or Brisbane or Melbourne and offers flexibility and a hybrid approach to working.You are a 6-8 years PQE lawyer with experience in employment law across both Australia and New Zealand. You will join the legal team and report to the Head of Legal ANZ but will work closely and primarily with our People & Culture (P&C) team.
You will be the SME on employment law in the team, working across a broad range of P&C areas:
• Staying up to date on employment law developments and translating these into operating practices and guidance for the P&C team and People manager community internally.
• Engaging with executives to provide briefings on employment law developments and emerging risks.
• Performance and people management, including incidents and disciplinary processes, workplace investigations, grievances, and organisational restructures.
• Compliance based investigations, including Whistleblowers/SpeakUp case reviews across APAC.
You will also have an interest and experience in general commercial transactions and/or compliance based matters, to support the rest of the team where capacity permits.
Whilst you are the SME on employment law, we are a close-knit legal team that works together to support the business. You will have regular contact with team members and receive mentoring to support your growth.

- Contribute to the positive culture of the legal team and P&C teams.
- Act as the SME on employment law in the team, providing practical, commercial and strategic advice on employment law issues.
- Develop and implement processes and procedures that enhance the efficiency of the legal and P&C teams.
- Effectively influence and act as a trusted advisor to the business.
What Would Make You a Great Fit?

- A team player who contributes to the success and culture of the team and enjoys what they do.
- 6-8 years of experience on employment law issues, either in private practice or an in-house environment.
- Strong experience in both Australia and New Zealand employment landscape.
- Knowledge of legislation – Fair Work Act; National Employment Standards; Modern Awards.
- Active awareness of recent developments and emerging trends – right to disconnect; psychosocial risk management; director accountability; flexible work arrangement decisions; employee non-compete restrictions; equal employment opportunity and diversity.
- Providing practical and commercial advice to translate requirements into a workplace setting.
- Advising P&C teams to navigate complex and sensitive employment matters.
- Experience with workplace health and safety law and workplace compensation is a positive.
- Eager to work with our P&C team to drive our people experience program.
- Ability to independently manage workload and operate with a high degree of autonomy.
- Effective communication skills to engage and influence key stakeholders.
- A current Australian Practising Certificate / New Zealand Practising Certificate.
