Who are we looking for?

Our Legal team is looking for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join a collaborative and supportive team that delivers interesting project work with a wide remit of opportunities. You will support GHD with strategic engagement on complex, high-value, and high-risk projects, with a particular focus on major infrastructure and engineering matters.

Working with a collaborative and high-performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Reviewing, negotiating and drafting a wide range of commercial contracts, including consultancy agreements in a range of contexts, such as design and construct, design only, alliancing and professional services for major infrastructure projects.

  • Providing guidance, advice and direction on legal issues for technical and operational staff.

  • Partnering with Project Directors and Project Managers to support them in the documentation, finalisation and execution of contracts

  • Providing advice on:

    • General legal issues that arise from day to day in a global consulting firm in the areas of employment, privacy and contract law, intellectual property law, commercial disputes and litigation management.

    • Legislative compliance, internal policies and some corporate governance matters.

  • Working with the GHD Project and Business Leadership teams in the negotiation of contracts.

This is a broad generalist role with a strong projects focus. You will advise across the full lifecycle of major projects and provide commercially-minded counsel to the business on day-to-day legal issues.

What you will bring to the team:

  • Demonstrated experience in commercial contracting and negotiation, with depth in infrastructure, engineering or construction project environments.

  • Current Practicing Certificate (unrestricted) with ideally 10+ years PQE

  • Experience across varied procurement models (e.g., design and construct, alliancing, PPP) including contract review and drafting for complex projects.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a collaborative and collegiate approach.

  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple matters.

  • Experience working in geographically dispersed or multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Deep experience across the full lifecycle of major projects, from procurement through delivery and dispute resolution.

  • In-house legal experience, particularly in an engineering, infrastructure or professional services environment.
