The Senior Manager - Advisory & Strategy, Financial Crime Risk is a senior Second Line of Defence (2LoD) role responsible for providing independent oversight, strategic advice and credible challenge to Line 1 across financial crime initiatives, governance and regulatory change. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the role supports the Head of Risk, Financial Crime by influencing risk outcomes and ensuring decisions are practical, well-governed and aligned to evolving regulatory expectations.

As a trusted advisor, the role applies excellent enterprise judgement to strengthen control effectiveness and governance outcomes, translating complex financial crime risk, regulatory change and transformation activity into clear, actionable advice. Through close partnership with business and program teams, it enables key initiatives while maintaining 2LoD independence and ensuring consistency across frameworks, risk management and issue outcomes.

This role enhances AMP’s financial crime capability by supporting risk-based decision-making, driving enterprise alignment and ensuring emerging risks, regulatory priorities and strategic initiatives are effectively managed across Line 1.


How will you make an impact

Financial Crime Strategy

  • Lead the development and uplift of AMP’s Line 2 Financial Crime strategy and annual workplan 
  • Ensure a cohesive, enterprise-wide approach aligned to regulatory expectations and evolving risk priorities 
  • Partner with the Head of Risk, Financial Crime and Leadership Team to deliver consistent, practical and tailored strategic advice 
  • Drive alignment and proactive management of financial crime risk across Banking, Wealth and Corporate functions

Policy, Framework & Risk-Based Approach

  • Provide senior Second Line of Defence (2LoD) oversight, challenge and advice on financial crime frameworks, policies and control environments 
  • Monitor and interpret regulatory change, enforcement actions and emerging risks 
  • Translate regulatory and industry developments into clear, sector-specific guidance across business and enablement functions 
  • Ensure obligations, control outcomes and residual risk acceptance are applied consistently and aligned to regulatory expectations 
  • Incorporate external insights through industry engagement and forums

Business Support & Change Management

  • Act as a key Line 2 escalation point, providing independent oversight, challenge and advice across financial crime initiatives and regulatory change 
  • Support Banking, Wealth and enterprise teams in managing financial crime risk in change, including structured risk assessments and governance 
  • Ensure business initiatives align to regulatory, policy and risk requirements, delivering sustainable control outcomes 
  • Influence senior stakeholders and program delivery through pragmatic advice and 2LoD challenge

Governance, Committees & Reporting

  • Provide 2LoD oversight and challenge across governance forums, including FCCC, Risk Committees and Board reporting 
  • Ensure clear articulation of financial crime risk exposure and compliance status 
  • Review and challenge Line 1 risk assessments across customer, product, channel and business unit risks (including ABC and fraud & scams) 
  • Maintain oversight of risk events, issues and remediation to ensure timely and sustainable outcomes 
  • Support regulatory reporting (including AUSTRAC) and translate regulatory change into clear, pragmatic financial crime risk strategy for the businesses for implementation

What you will bring to the role 

  • Proven experience in FCC business advisory or risk management within financial services consulting firm, law firm, audit firm or regulator
  • Banking and/or Wealth Management experience is essential
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in financial crime compliance or relevant risk management
  • Excellent understanding of AML/CTF Program obligations and 2LoD principles, including governance regulator expectations and evidence-based oversight.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and risk awareness mindset
  • Experience translating complex regulatory requirements into practical business obligations and implementation activities.
  • Professional certifications such as CAMS or accounting/audit qualifications highly desirable
  • Postgraduate qualifications in analytics, intelligence or risk are advantageous
  • Relevant graduate qualifications in business, governance, compliance, risk management, law, information security, or a related field.
  • Degree in Business, Commerce or Finance, Law or equivalent is preferred

Who you are

You are a seasoned Financial Crime Compliance professional with strong hands-on experience operating in regulated financial services environments. You bring a deep understanding of Second Line of Defence (2LoD) accountabilities, risk management frameworks and control assurance practices, along with sound knowledge of regulatory and legal expectations, particularly within banking and treasury contexts. You are technically confident in interpreting financial crime obligations and applying them within structured, risk-based frameworks.


You are highly organised and delivery-focused, with the ability to take end-to-end ownership of complex workstreams, from problem definition through to execution. You are comfortable overseeing and challenging control implementation and remediation activities while maintaining clear 2LoD independence, and can effectively prioritise across competing regulatory, strategic and business demands.


You bring excellent judgement and executive presence, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and provide credible challenge on complex Financial Crime matters. You communicate clearly at Board and committee level, translating technical issues into practical, well-reasoned, commercially informed advice. You are collaborative, resilient and forward-looking, with a strong focus on accountability, continuous improvement and building alignment across Financial Crime, Risk and business teams.
