We’re on the hunt for a highly skilled Senior Manager, Business Controls to join our high-profile Business Controls Office (BCO). Our BCO is responsible for the non-financial, regulatory and compliance Risk activities undertaken in the 1st Line of Defence for the Chief Operations Office (COO).

Reporting directly to the Head of Business Control Office, you’ll be responsible for advising our Fraud and Payment Services business units in the identification and management of non-financial risk in line with the Risk Appetite Statement, policies and regulatory obligations. This role forms an integral part of our 1st Line of Defence and has one direct report.

This is a permanent role based in Sydney.

What you’ll do

  • Act as an executive level adviser to COO teams in the identification, assessment, monitoring and management of non-financial risks, including development and maintenance of the business risk profile and assessment of Risk in Change.
  • Monitor and track non-financial risk items (issues, events, audit actions) and ensure timely actioning aligned to policy and procedure.
  • Facilitate periodic reviews of business and products to ensure maintenance of risk profile and compliance with policy and regulatory obligations.
  • Drive COO teams in development and monitoring of controls, undertaking controls testing and due diligence as needed to support Enterprise Risk Management.
  • Provide reporting, analysis and insights to support COO business leaders and Risk and Compliance Committee in effective identification and management of non-financial risks.
  • Develop expertise in end-to-end products and processes supporting the COO business and act as a subject matter expert on relevant compliance and regulatory obligations.
  • Play a leadership role in the Business Controls Office, helping to drive the team to achieve objectives.

What we’re looking for

  • Previous experience in a similar role as a Senior Manager, with a strong background in 1st line non-financial risk and compliance within banking.
  • A background in payment services and/or fraud is ideal but not essential. 
  • Demonstrated experience acting as an executive level adviser to partner with senior stakeholders and drive risk excellence within different business areas.  
  • The ability to work autonomously and pragmatically when problem solving and executing ideas.
  • A collaborative individual who can work closely with 2nd line of defence and lead on complex work.
