The opportunity

As the Senior Manager, Risk Business Challenge (Finance), you will provide strategic leadership in overseeing and challenging risk management practices within the relevant QBE business units. This involves practical application of QBE’s Risk Framework, supporting Finance to remain compliant with regulatory requirements, a sound understanding of financial risk management practices and stakeholder expectations.

The role involves influencing, supporting, and challenging business stakeholders to identify, monitor, and mitigate risks effectively, reporting on risk performance to the executive and board alongside engaging in initiatives to simplify and enhance risk frameworks.

Your new role

  • Contribute to the review and constructive challenge of the AUSPAC Finance business unit’s management of risk,   applying a robust and proportionate approach.

  • Act as the primary subject matter expert within L2 for assigned risk classes and actively contribute to the application and uplift of risk related  policies, and frameworks.

  • Provide high‑quality, value‑adding input into second‑line risk reporting for relevant risk governance committees.

  • Build and sustain strong, trusted relationships with business unit leadership and key stakeholders.

  • Provide effective challenge to the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of risk management processes. This includes contributing towards the design, implementation, and ongoing effectiveness of governance, risk, and control frameworks.

  • Influence and strengthen risk awareness and culture through proactive and consistent stakeholder engagement.

  • Enable and support the implementation of the risk management strategy and associated policies across the business.

  • Support the development of risk capability and maturity within stakeholder groups.

About you

To be successful as the Senior Manager, Risk Business Challenge (Finance) you will have extensive prior experience within a senior risk role within the financial services or insurance industry.

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated commercial acumen with the ability to provide confident, constructive challenge and influence senior leaders while balancing risk and business outcomes

  • Proven ability to take a “whole of QBE lens” view to your engagements, incorporating the impacts and dependencies of enterprise initiatives and broader external business environment into your challenge and support of the Finance Business Unit.

  • Experience in facilitating and participating in risk related activities such as (but not limited to) risk and control self-assessments, issue and incident management, delivered risk and delivery risk processes.  

  • Building trusted relationships across the business, partnering effectively with stakeholders to embed sound risk practices and culture.

  • Highly analytical and pragmatic, with a track record of assessing control effectiveness, improving risk processes, and enabling the delivery of risk strategy.
