Company Description

Founded in the Queensland outback in 1920, Qantas has grown to be Australia’s largest regional, domestic, and international airline. Qantas has a range of subsidiary businesses that support the overall operations of the Group. The Qantas Group’s main business is the transportation of customers and freight using two complementary airline brands — Qantas and Jetstar — operating regional, domestic, and international services.

Job Description

  • Fantastic opportunity to align technology strategy with business goals, while mentoring high-performing teams to deliver impactful outcomes.
  • Lead the strategic design and delivery of a technology roadmap across a product portfolio
  • Full-time permanent role based at our Head Office in Mascot

At Qantas, we represent Australia to the world. Our diverse country is known for its unique spirit, mateship, and a can-do attitude. Together we’re strong and resilient, and we work hard to make sure we’re always at our best.

As Senior Manager, Technology Risk & Compliance, you will lead a step change in how Qantas Airlines identifies, manages and reports on technology risk and compliance obligations. This is a newly created, strategic role and a genuine opportunity to shape something from the ground up.

You will be accountable for establishing a single, authoritative view of all technology risk and compliance obligations across the airline, spanning audit findings, regulatory requirements, risk remediation activities and governance actions. Your focus will be on making these obligations visible, owned, prioritised and driven to closure, giving Technology Leadership the timely, accurate and meaningful reporting they need to make confident decisions.

Critically, this role is about transformation, not maintenance. You will lead the identification and implementation of AI and automation opportunities to fundamentally change how technology risk and compliance is managed, reducing manual effort, improving accuracy and enabling a proactive rather than reactive approach.

You will work closely with Qantas Group Cyber, Audit, Privacy and the broader Technology Leadership team, bringing external market perspective and a continuous improvement mindset to uplift Qantas Airlines’ risk management capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and operate a consolidated tracking framework covering all technology risk and compliance obligations — audit committee actions, internal and external audit findings, risk remediation, regulatory requirements, and governance meeting actions
  • Ensure every obligation has a clear owner, due date, priority, and current status — and drive accountability across Technology domain owners to ensure timely closure
  • Provide the Chief Technology Officers with structured, insight-led reporting to support decision-making and escalation
  • Assess current technology risk management maturity and develop a structured, prioritised uplift roadmap with measurable milestones
  • Lead the identification and implementation of AI and automation opportunities across risk identification, control monitoring, evidence collection, obligation tracking, and reporting
  • Maintain oversight of Qantas Airlines' compliance framework obligations, including PCI DSS, Privacy, Cyber, and Technology Policy
  • Build trusted relationships across Technology, Audit, Cyber, Privacy, and Legal — influencing and driving accountability without direct authority
  • Lead and develop a small team of Risk & Compliance Analysts, building capability in risk management, compliance practice, and AI/automation tooling

You'll Have

  • 7+ years' experience in technology risk, compliance, or a related IT domain
  • 3+ years in a senior or lead role with demonstrated accountability for risk or compliance programs
  • Proven experience designing and implementing risk and compliance tracking frameworks or programs at scale
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills — with the ability to drive accountability across teams that don't directly report to you
  • Practical experience with, or a strong interest in, applying AI and automation to risk or compliance use cases
  • A data-driven mindset with the ability to translate complex risk information into clear, actionable reporting for senior and executive audiences
  • Solid understanding of technology compliance frameworks (PCI DSS, Privacy, Cyber, internal audit) in large enterprise environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A continuous improvement orientation — always looking for smarter, faster, and more effective ways to manage risk
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience
