About MorningstarMorningstar is committed to empowering investor success. One way we accomplish this is by offering independent research and great software products to financial advisers and individual investors. We believe that when the investor wins, we all win.
At Morningstar, your contributions have meaning and can drive change. We offer a place where talented, driven people can grow. Our differences are our strength; the fact that we don’t all think the same way and encourage unique perspectives helps create great products and services for our clients.
About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Product Analyst to lead strategic and operational initiatives across our Morningstar Investment Management (MIM) business. You'll bridge business and technology teams, turning MIM’s complex requirements into scalable solutions that improve our products and operating models. Success in this role will be measured by improved business outcomes, increased technology adoption, enhanced client experience and the successful delivery of scalable investment management capabilities. This role is expected to evolve over time into broader Product Ownership responsibilities as MIM expands its dedicated Australian technology capability.

The successful candidate will work closely with Australian stakeholders in Investments, Operations, Product, Sales & Distribution, Risk, Compliance, as well as Product Owners and Technology leaders in India and North America, creating a pathway towards senior product leadership opportunities. You will be comfortable operating at both a strategic and tactical level, working on everything from quick process improvements to large transformation programs.  The role is based in Sydney, reporting to the MIM technology squad

Product Owner.

What You'll Do

Product Ownership & Strategy

  • Partner with business leaders: to translate strategic priorities into technology roadmaps; championing product thinking and continuous improvement
  • Own and continuously refine the backlog and roadmap: Prioritise work by strategic value, client outcomes, regulatory obligations and efficiency.
  • Define and monitor: Define success measures, monitor adoption and business outcomes post implementation, and use data to inform future roadmap priorities
  • Communicate with senior stakeholders: Present recommendations and progress updates to senior stakeholders and governance committees.
  • Product discovery: Conduct product discovery activities including stakeholder interviews, process analysis and hypothesis validation to identify and prioritise opportunities

Requirements & Delivery

  • Define the problem and the solution: Frame business problems and target-state operating models, and build business cases and implementation plans.
  • Translate requirements: Convert business needs into user stories, process maps, data flows and functional specifications.
  • Deliver end to end: Lead testing, business readiness, implementation and post-implementation reviews, ensuring solutions meet investment governance, compliance and operational control requirements.
  • Run effective Agile delivery: Establish and maintain Agile rhythms (sprint planning, refinement, stand-ups, showcases, retrospectives and cross-squad checkpoints) within a geographically distributed squad model.

 AI, automation and simplification:

  • Process analysis: Identify, prioritise and lead the adoption of AI, workflow and data capabilities that improve client experience, operational efficiency and investment decision support.
  • Bridge business, technology and vendors: Facilitate workshops and act as the key link between Sydney-based stakeholders, technology teams, vendors and offshore delivery teams, keeping everyone aligned and informed across time zones.

Global collaboration & stakeholder management

  • Collaborate across MIM: Build strong working relationships across local and offshore teams, partnering with Product Owners, Business Analysts and Technology leads and other stakeholders across regions to align priorities, manage dependencies and reuse or scale solutions.
  • Engagement: facilitate backlog prioritisation and sprint planning across multiple time zones and create regular forums for knowledge sharing with MIM Product, Technology and PMO teams.

What You'll BringEssential
  • 5+ years in business analysis, product analysis, product ownership, consulting or technology delivery within wealth, funds, asset or investment management, superannuation or platforms.
  • Solid understanding of the investment lifecycle: product governance, portfolio construction, custody and administration, performance and attribution, tax and distributions, client reporting, and regulatory obligations.
  • Experience managing or influencing a product backlog and balancing competing stakeholder priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to make trade-off decisions between business value, client outcomes, operational efficiency, technical debt and delivery effort
  • A track record of delivering transformation initiatives of varying scale using Agile, Scrum or hybrid methods.
  • Experience using data analysis, business metrics or client insights to identify opportunities and prioritise technology initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead initiatives without direct authority.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Experience working with offshore or geographically distributed technology teams.
  • Must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.

Nice to Have
  • Experience with managed funds, managed accounts, OCIO solutions or investment platforms.
  • Experience working with custodians, fund administrators and transfer agents.
  • Experience with financial services software, including portfolio management systems, investment data and reporting systems.
  • Understanding of financial advice processes and how technology tooling can support advisers in their practices
  • Experience with product management tools such as JIRA, Confluence or Asana, and business tools such as Tableau or Salesforce.
  • Exposure to API-driven platforms, workflow automation tools, AI-enabled solutions and modern cloud-based architectures.
  • BA certification (CBAP), Agile certification (CSPO/PSPO/SAFe Product Owner), CFA Investment Foundations, CFA Program, IMC or similar qualifications.
  • Knowledge of Australian investment, superannuation and managed fund regulations.
