The Senior Product Marketing Manager will connect product, marketing, and strategy at Amber, focusing on understanding customers, delivering effective go-to-market strategies, and enhancing brand storytelling.
About Amber
Amber is an entirely new way to buy and sell power, designed for a world powered by renewable energy. We give customers direct access to the real-time wholesale electricity price as it varies every 5 mins and the technology to shift more of their energy usage to the times when cheaper renewables are available in the grid. It’s a cheaper way to buy power, a smarter way to sell power, and the fastest way for Australia to reach 100% renewable energy.
We are a clear category leader in Australia for home battery automation and are growing rapidly (over 50k customers). We have also recently expanded into licensing our core technology to utilities overseas, including a partnership with E.ON Next in the UK.
Amber is backed by top Australian and international investors including Square Peg, Main Sequence, Breakthrough Victoria, Commonwealth Bank, NRMA, Gentrack, ETF Partners (UK/Europe based), and E.ON Next.
We are scaling rapidly and you would be joining a 175-person team committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and purpose-driven culture as we transform a major industry.
Our products are reshaping home energy: Amber for Batteries cuts bills by exporting stored energy at wholesale prices of up to $19/kWh, and Amber for EVs enables the cheapest, cleanest charging. In 2025, we will push this even further with our new vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology.
About the Role
We're hiring a Senior Product Marketing Manager (SPMM) to be the connective tissue between our customers and our business. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of product, marketing, and strategy – where you'll shape how we understand our customers, bring features to market, and tell Amber's story to the world.
As our Senior PMM, you'll be the voice of the customer inside Amber, translating market insights into strategic guidance that drives decision-making across the business. You'll also be the architect of how we take our products to market – whether that's directly to consumers (B2C) or through our installer partners (B2B2C).
This role has a broad scope working across both inbound (customer insights, market research, strategic guidance) and outbound (go-to-market execution, content strategy, enablement materials) product marketing. You'll need to ruthlessly prioritise, build scalable systems, and deliver category-defining work that raises the bar for how tech companies bring products to market.
What You'll Be Doing
- Act as connective tissue across teams, bringing the customer's perspective to business decision-making
- Lead market research, category analysis and customer segmentation to keep Amber close to customers and inform strategy
- Own the core value propositions for each segment including positioning and language fit
- Identify customer misconceptions early and provide strategic guidance on how to address them
- Help the business see around corners by highlighting emerging opportunities and risks
- Partner with Product Managers to develop and execute go-to-market strategies for new features and integrations
- Lead launches across direct-to-consumer and B2B2C channels with the goal of driving customer value and installer partner success
- Design test-and-learn approaches to validate GTM strategies and continuously improve results
- Define and coordinate development of marketing resources used across D2C, B2B2C, and Operations teams
- Build scalable systems for creating, managing and distributing marketing materials across the business
- Drive continuous improvement in the quality and effectiveness of all customer touchpoints
- Own the strategic direction of Amber's marketing website (excluding quote and signup flows)
- Define how we tell our story within brand guidelines and ensure our web presence reflects our category-leading position
- Develop and execute content roadmap and coordinate SEO strategy

What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years in product marketing, preferably in consumer tech, subscription businesses, or high-growth startups
- Proven track record of taking products to market and driving measurable business outcomes
- Strong business acumen – you understand P&Ls, growth levers, and how marketing drives commercial success
- Exceptional communication skills across mediums and audiences (written, visual, verbal)
- Data-driven decision maker who combines strong intuition with rigorous analysis
- Experience developing and applying customer and market research
Ways of Working
- Ownership mentality – You drive consensus, not seek it. You make decisions, communicate tradeoffs clearly, and escalate blockers with recommendations. As a PMM, you know which projects you should lead/own and which ones just need your support to add polish
- Ruthless prioritisation – You can identify the highest-impact work and deliver it excellently while confidently saying no to lower-priority requests
- Executional excellence – You deliver category-defining work on time, hold yourself and others accountable to timelines, and continuously raise the bar
- Scrappy problem-solver – You bring solutions not just problems, have a bias to action, and thrive in ambiguity
- Collaborative spirit – You build trust with cross-functional stakeholders (Product, Ops, Legal, Finance, BD) and work effectively across teams
- Test-and-learn mindset – You approach work scientifically, set clear goals, and prove your work is hitting targets
Bonus Points
- Experience in energy, sustainability, or regulated consumer industries
- Background in both B2C and B2B2C marketing
- Strong visual/design sensibility and experience working with creative teams
- Understanding of SEO and content marketing strategies
Benefits:
- Be part of a growing technology start-up that will shape the future of renewable energy in AU
- Exciting coworking location in the CBD
- Flexible working hours with provision for regular work from home arrangements
- Equitable gender-neutral parental leave policies
- An external Employee Assistance Plan for mental health support
- Competitive salary and equity
- Annual Learning & Development budget to support your personal growth

We expect to remain Melbourne based but maintain flexibility between the office and WFH.
If this kind of work gets you excited, we'd love to hear from you!
We know that no one ticks every single box in a job description, and that’s okay. If this role excites you and you feel you could bring value, we would love to hear from you even if your experience doesn’t line up 100% with the list above.

- A follow-up case study discussion with our one of our Marketing team members and one of our Growth Product Managers
- A final conversation with our CMO and one other member of our Executive Leadership Team
We promise to be respectful of your time as an applicant while trying to be as thorough as possible in finding the right fit for our team.
Applications will be accepted only from candidates already based in Australia, preferably Melbourne with full working rights!
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted promptly. All other applicants will also be notified of the outcome as soon as possible.
