Morningstar, Inc., a leading global provider of independent investment research, is looking for an experienced sales individual to serve in Morningstar's Index business. The Index business is responsible for the creation and distribution of Morningstar's Index intellectual property. The group administers an extensive range of existing indexes and develops new, innovative offerings for use by asset managers and asset owners in serving their clients investment needs.
The Morningstar Indexes Team seeks a highly motivated Senior Sales Manager focused on developing and executing a strategy for adoption of our index offerings in major client segments, including Asset Managers, wealth platforms, Investment Banks, Superannuation amongst other financial services clients. Because this role covers a wide range of opportunities, it will require approximately 25% travel. This position will be based in Sydney.
Job Responsibilities
  • Own and grow a diversified commercial book of business across Australia and New Zealand (ANZ).
  • Forecast, identify, and proactively develop near‑term and long‑term strategic sales opportunities with both existing clients and prospective partners.
  • Collaborate closely with local Sales, Product, and Solutions teams to identify client needs and deliver optimal, scalable solutions.
  • Position Morningstar Indexes as a differentiated, value‑driven strategic partner, articulating a compelling price‑to‑value proposition that highlights innovation, quality, and long‑term client outcomes.
  • Exceed revenue targets while building a durable, scalable foundation for long‑term and recurring business growth.
  • Ensure clear visibility on progress and pipeline activity by maintaining rigorous CRM discipline and engaging in regular progress and alignment meetings with our local and global colleagues.
  • Report to the Head of International Index Sales, with functional collaboration and day‑to‑day market guidance provided by the Local Managing Director and local leadership team
  • While the primary focus of the role is Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), the individual will be expected to support and collaborate on selected Asia‑Pacific (APAC) initiatives as needed.

What will you bring
  • A highly entrepreneurial, hands‑on mindset - comfortable operating in lean environments, maximizing available resources, and delivering practical, results‑driven solutions while working closely and collaboratively with others.
  • Candidates must have at least five (5) years' proven sales and account management experience in investment or financial services, alongside strong commercial judgment and deep knowledge of the local financial ecosystem
  • Cultural alignment with the local team is critical. We are seeking a highly collaborative professional who thrives in a team‑driven, relationship‑oriented environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a track record of delivering credible and persuasive presentations.
  • Equally important is sound judgment, knowing when to lead confidently and when to seek input to protect client trust and business integrity.
  • Ability to understand and clearly articulate complex index‑based investment concepts, including solutions involving multiple partners and a sophisticated market ecosystem.
  • Willing to engage across the full spectrum of commercial opportunities - strategic and operational alike - bringing the same rigor and ownership to every engagement.
  • A bachelor`s degree is required; CFA is a plus.
  • Must be an Australian or NZ citizen or permanent resident.

Morningstar's hybrid work environment gives you the opportunity to collaborate in-person each week as we've found that we're at our best when we're purposely together on a regular basis. In most of our locations, our hybrid work model is four days in-office each week. A range of other benefits are also available to enhance flexibility as needs change. No matter where you are, you'll have tools and resources to engage meaningfully with your global colleagues.
