Job Description:

Senior Software Configuration Lead

Hitachi Rail Australia is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Configuration Lead to support major rail programs across NSW, including Sydney Metro West and future national projects. This long-term role will drive technical leadership in software configuration, cloud-native development, and deployment of Hitachi’s Alvea platform and associated business applications.

About the role

In this key technical position, you will lead software configuration, integration, and deployment activities across complex rail programs. You’ll work closely with engineering, product, and delivery teams to ensure smooth implementation, minimise reliance on overseas product teams, and help build long-term capability within Australia.

What you’ll do

  • Lead software configuration for the Alvea platform and related applications
  • Support delivery for Sydney Metro West and future projects
  • Provide expertise across software architecture, DevOps, configuration frameworks and cloud-based solutions
  • Oversee CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, and version control
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues across multiple systems
  • Collaborate with local and global teams to ensure consistent technical delivery
  • Contribute to system design, UX considerations, and continuous improvement initiatives

What you’ll need

  • Strong communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Expertise in software configuration, software architecture & DevOps
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages  
  • Knowledge of RabbitMQ or similar message brokers
  • Strong understanding of protocols such as OPC-UA, SNMP, Modbus TCP
  • Experience with cloud-native software development and deployment
  • Basic knowledge of containerisation technologies
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD techniques and version control systems
  • Linux operating system experience
  • Cloud technology knowledge  
  • Understanding of UX and Design Thinking principles
  • Excellent problem-solving skills

Highly desirable: Prior experience with Hitachi software configuration
