Build software. Influence architecture. Raise the engineering bar.

At Objective, we build software that helps governments deliver better outcomes for millions of people across Australia, New Zealand and the UK.

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who wants to do far more than deliver user stories.

This is an opportunity to become the technical leader within a high-performing engineering team—someone who influences architecture, improves engineering practices, mentors developers and drives the adoption of AI-assisted engineering across the software delivery lifecycle.

The Senior Software Engineer reports to the Development Manager, and it is an individual contributor role.

What you'll be doing:

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing and building cloud-native software while helping your team deliver reliable, scalable products.

    You'll:

    • Design and build modern full-stack applications.
    • Own technical decisions and contribute to solution architecture.
    • Lead code reviews and champion engineering best practice.
    • Improve CI/CD, testing, observability and operational excellence.
    • Drive reliability, scalability and performance across our platforms.
    • Lead incident response and drive operational improvements to prevent repeat issues.
    • Champion AI-assisted engineering to improve productivity and quality.
    • Shift quality left by shaping acceptance criteria, edge-case coverage, and verification practices to identify issues early.
    • Confirm features are genuinely live, working as intended, delivering measurable outcomes for customers, and meeting business metrics.
    • Partner closely with Product and Design to solve complex customer problems.
    • Mentor engineers and help grow technical capability across the team.

We're looking for someone who has:

    • Strong experience building modern cloud-based applications.
    • Expertise across the full software development lifecycle.
    • Experience designing scalable distributed systems.
    • Strong knowledge of Azure or AWS.
    • Experience with containers, CI/CD and modern DevOps practices.
    • A passion for engineering quality, system design and continuous improvement.
    • The ability to mentor others while remaining hands-on.
    • Experience using AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor or other AI-assisted engineering platforms will be highly regarded.

Why join Objective?

At Objective, our engineers don't just build software, they influence how it's built.

You'll join a collaborative product engineering team where you'll have the opportunity to shape architecture, improve engineering practices and work with modern cloud technologies to build software that makes a real difference to governments and communities.

    We offer:

    • Hybrid and flexible working.
    • Modern cloud-native technology stack.
    • Investment in AI and emerging engineering practices.
    • Genuine technical ownership and influence.
    • Career growth within a high-performing engineering organisation.
    • A collaborative, supportive engineering culture.

If you do not tick every box, do not let that stop you. We value potential, learning agility, coachability and diverse perspectives just as much as experience, and we encourage you to apply.

At Objective, we recognise and celebrate our diverse team as pivotal to our strong employee engagement and our high-performing culture, underpinned by Our Values.

We are an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate based on any protected characteristics or on any other basis prohibited by applicable laws in the regions where we operate.

To ensure a positive experience, please inform our Talent Team of any adjustments or accommodations you may require during the recruitment process, so we can support you effectively.
