We're REA
With bold and ambitious goals, REA Group  is changing the way the world experiences property. No matter where you're at on your property journey, we're here to help with every step - whether that's finding or financing your next home.
Our people are the key to our success. At the heart of everything we do, is a thriving culture centred around high performance and care. We are purpose driven and collaborative, which drives innovation and our ability to make a real impact. As such, we’re proud to have been named one of Australia’s Best Workplaces four times since 2021 — including third place in 2025 — plus Best Workplace for Women in 2023 and Best Workplace in Technology in 2024 and 2025. These listings are testament to every person who helps make REA a great place to work.

Where the team fits in

The Listing Experience Squad sits within the Residential Advertising Value product group. We own the property details experience across web, iOS and Android — helping property seekers evaluate and act on properties from page view to offer.

Our work includes media viewers, tours, property highlights, calculators and integrations with the Listing Experience API. We’re a full-stack team of around five to six engineers, working across mobile, web and backend.

What the role is all about

As a Senior Engineer (Mobile Android), you’ll help build and evolve REA’s mobile products, with Android as your speciality. You’ll remain hands-on while providing technical leadership, mentoring developers and influencing mobile architecture and engineering practices.

You’ll work with product, design and engineering colleagues to deliver robust, maintainable and high-performing experiences. While Android is your primary focus, you’ll have the flexibility to contribute across APIs, cloud services, delivery pipelines, iOS and web when needed.

Day to day, you’ll:

  • Design, build, test and document Android applications and supporting services using REA Engineering standards

  • Lead or contribute to high-value initiatives and deliver features from discovery through to deployment and optimisation

  • Solve complex technical problems and share your knowledge to lift team capability

  • Guide technical decisions, architecture and engineering practices in partnership with the Engineering Manager and senior engineers

  • Work with stakeholders to design high-quality solutions that meet user needs

  • Maintain existing products, resolve production issues and participate in the Day Pager Primary roster

  • Own your code through production, with responsibility for reliability, security and performance

  • Connect with REA’s mobile community and contribute to team culture, recruitment and continuous improvement

Who we’re looking for

You’re a Senior Android engineer who can work independently, make sound technical decisions and contribute confidently in a collaborative environment.

You’ll bring:

  • Extensive Android development experience and strong Kotlin skills

  • Experience designing and maintaining scalable, high-performance mobile applications and supporting services

  • Strong knowledge of mobile architecture, API integration, platform guidelines and performance optimisation

  • The ability to deliver significant features end-to-end and work across the stack when needed

  • Sound judgement around technical patterns and trade-offs, with the confidence to explain and defend your recommendations

  • A collaborative approach to technical debate, including openness to feedback and correction

  • A genuine interest in mentoring, teaching and helping others grow

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex ideas into clear plans

  • Experience working in an Agile environment with a focus on quality and user experience

  • A track record of resolving production issues effectively

  • Comfort with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, Copilot and Codex

Our tech stack and ways of working
  • Agile, cross-functional delivery across web and native product experiences

  • Mobile applications, APIs, cloud services and delivery pipelines

  • A “you build it, you run it” approach to reliability, security and performance

  • A tight-knit mobile community focused on knowledge sharing, pairing, mentoring and architecture

  • A multi-year initiative to retire the legacy monolith and adopt micro-frontend patterns

  • Thoughtful use of AI tools to improve efficiency and development practices

  • A strong focus on engagement, wellbeing and psychological safety
