At Riot, we believe in putting players first. Our Sydney-based team collaborates globally to build next-generation game features and technology on an exciting Unpublished R&D Title. Whether it’s backend systems, client features, performance tooling, or player-facing experiences, we create the infrastructure and features that shape player and developer satisfaction.

As a Software Engineer II, you will contribute to the development of metagame systems and features that power a new R&D gameplay experience. You'll work in a cross-functional team alongside producers, designers, and other engineers, helping define and deliver solutions that are scalable, performant, and tailored to enhance player experiences outside of gameplay.

Responsibilities:

  • Uphold a high standard of engineering excellence
  • Design, build, and maintain software systems with a focus on quality, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with designers, producers, and other engineers to scope, implement, and test features.
  • Participate in code reviews, write unit/integration tests, and contribute to continuous improvement of team practices.
  • Debug and resolve issues in live environments and development pipelines.
  • Write clear documentation and communicate technical details across disciplines.
  • Learn and contribute to shared libraries, tools, and platforms used across the project.

Required Qualifications: 

  • 3+ years experience in professional software development
  • Professional experience and proficiency with C++
  • Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, concurrency, etc.)
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating across disciplines
  • Experience building games and/or working in game engines

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and/or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of social systems, Unreal view models or Unreal Online Subsystems
  • Experience developing UI or metagame systems for Unreal Engine games
  • Professional experience building large scale backend systems or game services
  • Experience with perforce and/or github version control systems
