As the Senior UX Designer, you'll lead end-to-end design for web and mobile, engaging in user research and prototyping. You'll define design systems and collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to craft exceptional user experiences.
At Carma, we’re more than just a car company, we’re on a mission to shake up the Australian automotive industry! As a digital pre-owned car dealership, we’re turning the car buying (and selling!) experience into a hassle-free, seamless journey that customers can truly enjoy. With our diverse and collaborative team managing everything from engineering to marketing and buying to reconditioning in-house, we’re powered by the best people and we’d love for you to come along for the ride!
As our first ever Senior UX Designer in the Product team, you’re the creative force shaping how thousands of people experience buying a car online. From the first scroll of discovery, right through to checkout, finance and that final “yep, it’s mine” moment, you’ll be designing journeys that feel simple, human and a little bit magical. This is our first in-house UX design role, so you’re not just joining the team, you’re helping define how we design at Carma. You’ll set the bar for craft, build systems that scale, and bring clarity to complex journeys, all while teaming up with Product, Engineering and the wider business to turn ideas into beautifully usable experiences. Think big picture systems thinking, mixed with pixel level polish, sprinkled with curiosity, experimentation and a bit of design mischief.
What you'll be doing:
- Own end to end UX design across web and mobile, from early ideas and sketches through to polished, high fidelity UI that just feels right
- Run with user research, usability testing and competitor insights, using AI tools to speed up thinking, spot patterns and uncover smarter ways to solve problems
- Map out full customer journeys, including all the awkward bits, edge cases and “what happens if…” moments that make real products real
- Build and evolve design systems that keep everything consistent, scalable and unmistakably Carma
- Bring ideas to life fast with prototypes that help everyone see it, feel it and get excited about it
- Partner closely with Product, Engineering and the wider business to shape decisions across the whole product lifecycle
- Play with emerging AI design tools and workflows, testing what works, sharing learnings, and helping lift the whole team’s craft
Okay, let's talk about you:
- You’ve got 5+ years designing customer facing digital products, ideally in B2C, eCommerce, FinTech or other fast moving, real world environments
- You’re a strong UX thinker with solid interaction design, information architecture and visual craft skills
- Figma is basically your playground, you’re confident in prototyping and building design systems that actually get used
- You’ve run or contributed to user research and usability testing, and you know how to turn insights into better design decisions
- You’re curious about AI in design and keen to experiment, not just watch from the sidelines
- You can tell a clear design story, bring stakeholders with you, and explain decisions without drowning people in jargon
- You’re comfortable in ambiguity, you don’t need perfect briefs, you help shape them
- You collaborate naturally, take feedback well, and care more about great outcomes than ego or ownership
