Job Description

We're looking for a Software Engineer – AI to join Lendi Group's AI Engineering team, building the next generation of AI-powered products and agentic systems that support our brokers, teams and customers.

You'll work on exciting Greenfield projects, developing AI agents, intelligent workflows and the underlying services that bring these experiences to life. Working across the full stack, from React frontends and TypeScript/Node.js services through to cloud infrastructure, data stores and event-driven integrations, you'll help turn emerging AI capabilities into practical, scalable solutions.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who's genuinely excited about AI and how it's changing software development. You'll have the opportunity to experiment with emerging technologies, contribute ideas and solve complex technical challenges, while working with a team that values curiosity, collaboration and getting things into production.

You'll join a fast-moving, highly collaborative engineering environment where ideas are shared openly, problems are solved together and delivery happens in small, meaningful increments. We're looking for someone who takes ownership, challenges assumptions and enjoys working through ambiguity to deliver real outcomes.

Note this is an 12-month fixed-term mat leave cover position (strong possibility of perm), based in Sydney and we work hybrid (2 days in office).

You will:

  • Design, build and maintain AI-powered applications, agentic systems and supporting services across Lendi Group's technology platform.
  • Develop full-stack solutions using TypeScript, Node.js and React, working across frontend experiences, backend services, APIs and integrations.
  • Build and integrate AI agents and intelligent workflows, applying concepts such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt engineering, orchestration, structured outputs and evaluation.
  • Contribute to Greenfield engineering projects, helping shape technical designs, architecture and implementation approaches from the ground up.
  • Develop and maintain scalable, event-driven services using AWS technologies, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Kafka and cloud-native infrastructure.
  • Take ownership of engineering work from initial design and development through to testing, deployment, production verification and ongoing improvement.
  • Work closely with engineers, product teams and stakeholders to understand business problems, challenge requirements and identify practical technical solutions.
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical issues using logs, tracing, debugging and evidence-based problem-solving.
  • Contribute to technical design discussions, code reviews and collaborative problem-solving, sharing ideas and constructively challenging approaches.
  • Deliver solutions iteratively, breaking complex problems into smaller, testable releases while balancing speed, quality, scalability and maintainability.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools as part of your engineering workflow, applying sound judgement to validate outputs and maintain code quality.
  • Stay across emerging AI technologies, tools and engineering practices, bringing new ideas and opportunities into the team.

Qualifications

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience in TypeScript, Node.js and React, and a solid understanding of APIs, backend services, databases and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience working with AWS services such as Lambda, Step Functions and messaging technologies, alongside MongoDB and/or DynamoDB.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for AI and agentic systems, with demonstrated experience exploring, building or integrating AI-powered applications through professional work or substantial personal projects.
  • Familiarity with AI concepts including LLMs, RAG, prompt engineering, agent orchestration, evaluation, context management and tracing.
  • Strong technical design and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, break down complex challenges and develop practical, scalable solutions.
  • A proactive, ownership-driven approach to engineering, with the ability to work independently, manage dependencies and deliver solutions from design through to production.
  • Strong product thinking and commercial awareness, with the ability to understand business problems, challenge requirements and contribute to effective technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the confidence to share ideas, constructively challenge approaches and work effectively across teams.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or similar, with sound judgement in validating outputs and maintaining engineering quality
