What We Do

The Identity team’s mission is to help advertisers reach audiences and measure campaign outcomes across omnichannel marketing strategies. We develop industry‑leading cross‑device graphs by leveraging identity signals from petabytes of data and applying these signals in real time across a trillion ad opportunities per day.

We also develop and maintain Unified ID 2.0, a privacy‑conscious, secure, and accurate identity standard for the digital advertising ecosystem.

Our Software Engineers are end‑to‑end owners who participate in designing, building, and delivering data‑focused products for our stakeholders.

At The Trade Desk, we build backend infrastructure with a focus on quality and scale. Whether we are building client‑facing applications, internal tools, or model pipelines for bidding optimization, we ensure our infrastructure and tools support high‑quality, efficient development.

We run distributed systems that operate 24/7 across global traffic and rely on a wide array of technologies to solve complex algorithmic, optimization, and scale challenges.

What You’ll Do

You will contribute to our mission by:

  • Designing, building, delivering, and owning full lifecycle software from inception to production
  • Developing and maintaining highly available distributed systems with high throughput and low latency
  • Developing and maintaining reliable and efficient big data pipelines
  • Delivering high‑quality changes, including automated tests, metrics, and monitoring
  • Collaborating with team members to design and deliver features
  • Partnering with product managers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to drive business outcomes
  • Guiding and reviewing changes aligned to product roadmaps
  • Leading others through mentorship, teaching, and contributions to hiring

We are a global team with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. You welcome different ideas, build from common ground, and foster both visible and invisible dimensions of diversity.

Who You Are

Our culture goes deeper than just having fun together (though we do that well). Our engineers are trust‑builders, generous givers, scrappy problem solvers, and gritty pursuers of excellence.

You don’t need to meet every requirement, but people who meet most tend to succeed in this role:

  • Comfortable working on an agile, distributed team across multiple time zones
  • Able to communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Solid understanding of computer science and engineering fundamentals
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages: C#, Java, C++, Python, Scala, Rust, Go or something similar
  • Experience working with distributed systems
  • 3+ years of software development experience

Nice‑to‑haves:

  • Spark, Airflow, Kubernetes, Terraform
  • Prometheus, Grafana
  • Aerospike, SQL Server, Vertica
  • Kafka, Flink
  • Experience with large‑scale data processing pipelines

Education:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. We understand that access to education varies — what matters most is your ability to contribute.

At The Trade Desk, you’ll have opportunities to explore a variety of technologies. You don’t need to know them all on day one — what matters is your ability to learn quickly, solve complex problems, and choose the right tools for the job. We’re not looking for people with all the answers — we’re looking for people who can invent answers that no one has thought of yet.

As an Equal Opportunity Employer, The Trade Desk is committed to creating an inclusive hiring experience where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
