The Role:
ConnectID is changing how identity verification is performed in Australia, enabling people to prove their identity through the organisations they already trust. Join the team helping make identity verification simpler and more secure while giving people greater control over the personal information they share.

As a Software Engineer in our ConnectID team, you’ll design, build and maintain secure, scalable and reliable software that powers our digital ID verification infrastructure. Our core technology stack includes Java, Spring Boot and React, with applications hosted on AWS.

Working across the full software development lifecycle, you’ll take ownership of software components, solve engineering challenges and collaborate with product, architecture and engineering teams to deliver high-quality, customer-focused solutions. You’ll also apply modern engineering practices and use agentic AI development tools to improve productivity and delivery outcomes.

Key outcomes the role will own

  • Design, develop, test, document and maintain software components and APIs that meet business and customer needs, applying agreed architecture, design patterns and security standards.
  • Work with Product and other stakeholders to define and clarify requirements, then design, build and test software solutions that meet them.
  • Contribute to the design of larger applications and services, documenting interfaces and collaborating with the team to evaluate design options and trade-offs.
  • Develop and maintain manual and automated tests, including unit, integration and end-to-end tests, and incorporate functional and non-functional testing into continuous delivery.
  • Maintain code quality through secure coding, refactoring, constructive code reviews and clear documentation.
  • Improve software delivery through CI/CD and automation, helping configure and maintain development environments, infrastructure-as-code configurations and engineering tools.
  • Use AI-powered development tools to support coding, testing, refactoring and documentation, reviewing and validating outputs to maintain engineering quality and security.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Architecture, Security, QA and Operations teams to resolve issues, incorporate feedback and deliver reliable, production-ready solutions.
  • Support customer onboarding and integration, working directly with external customers to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues

What you’ll bring:

We’re looking for a software engineer who combines practical development experience with a passion for building reliable software, solving problems and continuously improving their craft. You’ll bring:

  • 3+ years of software development experience using one or more modern programming languages, such as Java, TypeScript or C#.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience designing, building and maintaining software components and APIs, with an understanding of software design principles.
  • Knowledge of unit and integration testing practices, with practical experience writing and maintaining automated tests.
  • Experience using agentic AI development tools to support coding, testing, refactoring and documentation, including effective prompting and reviewing generated outputs.
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows, including branching, pull requests, code reviews and resolving merge conflicts.
  • Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams, communicating clearly with stakeholders and contributing constructively to team discussions.
  • Familiarity with cloud services such as AWS, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices will be highly regarded.
  • Working knowledge of, or hands-on experience with, OpenID Connect (OIDC) authentication or digital credentials APIs will be highly regarded.
