About the role

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Technology team in Sydney.

Technology sits at the heart of everything we build at Stake. Our engineers are responsible for creating the products, services and infrastructure that power the investing experience for hundreds of thousands of customers. From trading and portfolio management to account operations and new product launches, engineering plays a critical role in shaping how customers interact with Stake every day.

As a Software Engineer, you'll contribute to the design, development and operation of systems that are reliable, scalable and built for long-term growth. You'll work closely with Product, Design and Engineering teammates to solve meaningful customer problems, deliver high-quality software and continuously improve the systems that underpin our platform.

This is a role with significant ownership and opportunity for growth. You'll help shape technical decisions, contribute to architectural discussions and take responsibility for the systems you build from development through to production. We work hybrid spending 3 days in our beautiful, dog-friendly Sydney office.

What success looks like

Within your first two years, you'll have:

  • Delivered software that materially improves the experience of customers and contributes to key business outcomes
  • Built and maintained reliable, scalable services that support Stake's continued growth and evolving product offering
  • Become a trusted owner of critical systems, confidently supporting them in production and contributing to operational excellence
  • Contributed to architectural decisions that improve performance, reliability and developer productivity across the platform
  • Consistently delivered high-quality, maintainable and well-tested code while balancing technical excellence with business priorities
  • Helped improve engineering standards through thoughtful code reviews, knowledge sharing and collaboration
  • Built strong partnerships across Product, Design and Engineering to solve complex customer problems effectively
  • Contributed to a culture of continuous improvement, helping make Stake a stronger engineering organisation over time
You'll thrive here if…
  • You have experience building and operating customer-facing software in modern engineering environments
  • You value simplicity and understand that the best solutions are often the ones that are easiest to operate, maintain and evolve
  • You're pragmatic and can make thoughtful trade-offs between speed, quality and long-term sustainability
  • You take ownership of outcomes and enjoy supporting the systems you build in production
  • You enjoy collaborating with others, sharing knowledge and helping raise the standard of the team around you
  • You're curious, adaptable and excited to learn new technologies and approaches when they create better outcomes
Bonus if you've ever
  • Worked with Golang, distributed systems or event-driven architectures
  • Built systems using Kubernetes, Docker or cloud-native technologies
  • Worked with technologies such as CockroachDB, Redis, gRPC, Pub/Sub or similar platforms
  • Supported high-availability systems operating at scale
  • Worked in fintech, investing, financial services or another highly regulated environment
