Job Description

Your Opportunity 

We’re looking for a Solution Architect to join our Enterprise Technology Services team, supporting our Acquiring product domain.

Our Acquiring domain is at the forefront of this—supporting merchant payments, transaction processing, and card acceptance capabilities across a rapidly evolving payments landscape.

In this role, you’ll design and evolve the platforms that enable merchant acquiring, card processing, and transaction authorisation—ensuring our systems are scalable, resilient, and ready for the future of digital payments.

You’ll work on high-volume, real-time systems where performance, reliability, and security are critical, helping Cuscal continue to deliver innovative solutions in a competitive and fast-moving market.

You’ll also make an impact by: 

  1. Interpret Business Needs:
    • Translate both business and technical requirements into an architectural blueprint and non-functional requirements such as availability, disaster recovery, and security.
    • Develop solution architectures that adhere to our Technology Strategies including API, Cloud, and Cyber Strategy, ensuring compliance with governance obligations.
    • Collaborate closely with product owners and managers to support robust architectural foundations that accommodate future business demands.
    • Understand and integrate business drivers and enterprise solution designs to drive targeted outcomes.
    • Example Deliverables: Requirements traceability document, business process diagrams.
  2. Assess Technology:
    • Monitor and evaluate our current technology landscape to identify and rectify deficiencies.
    • Stay abreast of global trends and disruptions to make informed technological decisions.
    • Support lifecycle management and strategic decision-making for end-of-life products.
    • Analyse market trends and competitor strategies to proactively adjust our technological trajectory.
    • Example Deliverables: Current state architecture documentation, vendor assessments for RFP, technology lifecycle plans.
  3. Apply Technology:
    • Lead the design and implementation of solution architectures across various business applications and technologies.
    • Develop a roadmap for the evolution of the enterprise solution portfolio from its current to future state.
    • Provide consultancy across a wide range of technologies and projects, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards.
    • Work closely with the Domain Lead to ensure effective execution of architectural plans.
    • Example Deliverables: Solution architecture designs, enterprise target state architecture.
  4. Provide Enterprise Guidance:
    • Deliver standards, models, and architectural designs to support governance and ensure compliance with enterprise architecture.
    • Facilitate a community of practice to align agile squads and product owners with enterprise architecture.
    • Define and direct governance activities for solution architecture assurance.
    • Example Deliverables: Solution scorecard, enterprise reference architecture components.

Qualifications

What you’ll bring 

To succeed in this role, you’ll have: 

  • Experience as a Solution Architect in payments, acquiring, or financial services platforms
  • Strong understanding of high-availability, real-time transaction systems
  • Proven ability to define architecture and influence stakeholders
  • Experience with APIs, integration patterns, and distributed systems
  • Solid knowledge of AWS cloud (PaaS/IaaS), security, and infrastructure
  • Experience delivering solutions in Agile environments
  • Ability to balance innovation with risk, compliance, and resilience

You’ll stand out from the crowd if you have some of the following: 

  • Experience in merchant acquiring or card payments environments
  • Knowledge of payments standards and messaging (ISO8583, ISO20022, AS2805)
  • Familiarity with card schemes, payment gateways, authorisation flows, and settlement processes
  • Background in software engineering or development
