Job Description

Overview of the Team:

TAL’s Strategy Team is led by General Manager, Strategy and M&A. The Strategy Team is responsible for facilitating TAL’s annual Strategy process, developing TAL’s Corporate Strategy, supporting other business areas with ad hoc requests for strategic support and supporting TAL’s corporate ventures capability.

Overview of the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Strategy Manager to join the Group Strategy & Corporate Development team of a leading Life Insurance business in Australia. As a member of the Group Strategy & Corporate Development team you will help shape the long-term group strategy, support corporate development, drive long term growth, competitive advantage and innovation agenda for the business. You will also support TAL’s annual strategy process, strategy workshops, Board and Shareholder communication, strategy projects, analysis and research.

The ideal candidate will have strategy consulting and financial services experience, strong understanding of the life insurance industry, M&A experience, outstanding analytical and communication skills as well as curiosity and passion to innovate and solve complex problems and make a positive difference for our customers, partners, people and
communities.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Strategy development: Support the development and implementation of TAL’s corporate strategy. Support the development of comprehensive macroeconomic and market analysis, competitor benchmarking and industry trend assessment to identify opportunities and threats.
  • Annual strategy cycle: Support TAL’s annual strategy cycle, including development of key strategic materials for
    the TAL Board and TAL’s parent company, Dai-ichi Life Group.
  • Corporate Development: Identify and analyse potential organic and inorganic strategic opportunities to enhance TAL’s position.
  • Strategic Analysis and insights: build and own complex models to support strategic projects, extract insights from large data sets
  • Stakeholder communication and cross-functional collaboration: Collaborate with senior management and TAL’s leadership team and across the business to develop and communicate the strategy effectively to internal and
    external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in business, finance, or related field including MBA
  • 3 – 5 years of previous work experience in a relevant corporate strategy role or top tier management consulting firm
  • Experience in the life or general insurance, superannuation or broader financial services industry
  • Strategic thinker and structured problem solver
  • Strong analytical, quantitative and Excel skills, with ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written,
  • Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities
