We are seeking an experienced Tax Specialist to join our Sime Industrial Finance team based in South Brisbane.

Reporting to the Executive Manager - Tax, you'll work on interesting and complex multinational tax matters, learn from experienced tax professionals, and continue developing your expertise within a flexible and supportive corporate environment.

Whether you're currently in professional services and looking to move in-house or already working in industry and seeking broader tax exposure, this role provides the opportunity to deepen your technical knowledge, gain exposure to diverse tax challenges, and make a meaningful impact across a large and complex organisation.

What will you be doing?

As a Tax Specialist you will:

  • Assist in managing the fulfilment of the Sime Industrial Group’s tax reporting, compliance and advisory obligations in Australia, New Zealand, PNG, Solomon Islands and New Caledonia.

  • Preparation of income tax, GST, IAS, WHT, NRI, FBT returns, transfer pricing, employment taxes and associated workpapers for the Sime Industrial.

  • Preparation of tax effect accounting and tax notes on a yearly basis.

  • Deliver timely, high-quality and customer focused technical advice on operational and structural issues to the Sime Industrial Group.

  • Proactively contribute to regulator engagement, including the ATO justified trust program.

  • Adhere to Sime Industrial tax risk appetite and tax governance standards. 

  • Operationalise, implement and enhance Sime Industrial tax internal control structure.

  • Manage the development of appropriate training, sign off procedures and initial review procedures in relation to tax compliance activities.

  • Actively maintain current knowledge of tax issues and developments, monitor tax law changes and emerging ATO views.

  • Analysis of industry issues to provide insights about emerging tax risks/opportunities for the Sime Darby Industrial Group.

  • Grow and maintain strategic business relationships across the Sime Darby Industrial Group and with advisors, ATO and industry bodies.

What will you bring?

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or a related discipline, with CA, CPA, CTA or postgraduate tax qualifications highly regarded.

  • Experience in corporate tax gained within a professional services firm, large corporate or multinational organisation.

  • Strong technical tax knowledge across areas such as income tax, GST, tax reporting and compliance.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex tax matters into practical business outcomes.

  • A proactive and analytical approach, with a desire to continuously learn, solve complex problems and contribute to process improvements.
